2 more recruits for RIT hockey today... (a total of 4 replacing the 3 graduating seniors)

Michael Holland, Defenseman. 6'1" 190 lbs - http://ushl2011.stats.pointstreak.com/playerpage.html?playerid=4253277&seasonid=5967 - Think he was Kuqali's linemate last year with the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL - @MHolland_7
Danny Smith, Left Winger. 5'11" 185 lbs - http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=58784 - Looks to be a big time scorer - @DannySmith_

This adds to LW Todd Skirving and Defensemen Alexandre Perron-Fontaine

We also lost Sidhu already this season, and I am not sure if Brandon Thompson was this year, or if he left during the off season.

Thompson was suspended for the season, this was discussed at the start of the year. He should be back next year. Not sure if Sidhu will be back next year or not. He's still at RIT and appears to still be close to the team.

I watched Holland during the 2010-2011 season and part of last season in Cedar Rapids. He is gritty stay at home defenseman who isnt afraid to mix it up. He is not going to do much on the offensive end but will not hurt you in the defensive zone. Good pick up. He was a teammate of RIT coach Wayne Wilson's son in Cedar Rapids so he knows what he is getting out of Holland

Thompson -> see RIT Winters. Also lost Nick Gordon last year before that (was not replaced) and Woody Hudson decommited that was probably filling his place. So figure that we have 2 extra free spaces, so if we want to be back to normal expect 5 commits this year, although I'd lean towards maybe more as Wilson may be starting to value the idea of a lot of depth rather than what he currently runs (although may be hard to do due to lack of scholarships).

Side note, does anyone else feel like that the Canucks may be starting to use RIT as some form of farm system/like Wayne Wilson/recommend players go here. Todd Skirving was really close to a Canuck scout who sent him a congratulations tweet. Just idle fun speculation....

Smith's twitter handle is @smithdanny_ - the one you gave belongs to a kid from the UK.

I've heard it at least 2-3 times this year from the corner, whether or not it was officially the "corner crew", I can't say. I hope you are right that it is going the way of the dinosaur.

All I can say is that I haven't heard it and I am in the middle of the Corner. MAYBE it was done at Blue Cross, I don't know.

Not a big deal. I also thought I remembered hearing it at BCA, but I am not positive on that one. I am 100% sure I have heard it at Ritter more than once. The one I recall vividly was the Thursday night game (RMU) because I had a violent reaction to it. I was standing over near the concession stand and it came from the general direction of the corner, but might not have been the corner crew per se. It was definitely loud enough to hear across most of the arena.

Anyway, I am glad to here the trend is away from that one.

And ... in general I have always been amused by, and enjoyed, the corner crew. I'm not one to be critical of those that show the dedication to be "loud and obnoxious at hockey games. Some cheers will be good and live on, others not so much. Whatever ... keep cheering, it's good for the school.

As someone else pointed out already, it's also good to cheer for your team/school win or lose and I love that about RIT hockey fans in general. I have criticized the team here because they just aren't that good (so far at least ... please prove me wrong!), but I will still go to games and cheer for them. Of course that's more fun when the wins are more plentiful ... something we've all gotten very used to over the years.

I've picked HC to sweep this weekend, so I hope that will be just what the Tigers need. I'm willing to take one for the team! ;)

Peace!

Hurting stat for the day, hoped to see RIT improve on the goal total in the third period from last year when they gave up 6 more goals in the third then they scored. This year they are being out scored 7 to 16 in the third :eek::eek:

The GWG last night was Watson's fault, but I have a hard time blaming him for the others. That said, I'd like to see MacLean also.

Watson could have done a better job holding the post for sure, but I am still bent out of shape with Noyes getting out worked by Sullivan behind the net...

The first goal was a simple, soft backhand that went over the stick, and between Watson's legs. I saw no rebound on the replay.

As an ex-umpire I always wanted to say this, check your eyes. If the intial shot went in why was Gibbons swatting at it? He sure celbrated like he got, and he was rewarded the goal. Think its tough on any goaltender to basically face a 2-0 12 seconds into the game. What ever happen to Shumway pass left both defensemen unable to get to Watson in time to help...

The administration can't be happy to see this team quite frankly stink, and lose a ton of momentum a year before opening a new arena.

If the Administration is not happy, they can always start working on that move all teams D-I and add scholarships to help the team, just a thought...

Is Sidhu really off the team? And do we know why? I saw him last week eating lunch with Collevechia and Raibel

Why is that interesting? Even though he left the team he can still be friends with them.

I wonder if he's staying at school here or if he's going back to his junior team.

I was mostly being sarcastic. As far as I know he's still at RIT and still friends with the team. Perhaps he will return next year. Some of us have a clue as to why he left..

Just to clarify the first goal on Saturday (12 seconds into the game)....Watson did make the save on the shot from the left side of the crease. He directed the rebound to his left (far side of crease) but unfortunately the puck bounced off an RIT defenseman's leg and into the net. The D in question was in the process of getting into position at the top of the crease at the time. The whole sequence was very unfortunate.

Then should that have been Sullivan's goal and not Gibbons?? BTW, anyone with a NCAA rule book look it up, I thought shots from outside the zones where not suppose to count. Canisius had like 10 of them Saturday night.

Tigers need to find a way to advoid unfortunate seqences, they are running into many, what the old pun you make your own breaks??

RIT drops to 11th on the CHN Atlantic Hockey Power Rankings. Have to say I think that is piling on, how can you rank AIC ahead of RIT? I think taking 3 of 4 points on a teams home ice is worth more than a win over Quinnipiac. However how does it feel to be arguing that your team should be ranked higher than AIC... Gripe for the day over...

Game day tomorrow. It's been awfully quiet this week.

In AHA pick'em I believe I picked this weekend as a split. In reality I would be pleasantly surprised if we earned #2pts.

Me too. I think that 2 pts would be a step in the right direction for this team.
