Any word on Hamburg?
Any word on Hamburg?
It will be interesting to see who gets the start between the pipes for the Robert Morris game. Whomever does not get the start between Ruby and Watson will start the game at Colgate.
Just to pick a nit...I went back and watched the highlights of Madalora's BCA game (it was umass not colgate)
I read the following from the D&C written right after the game, haven't seen anything since.
"Then 57 seconds later, Penn State’s George Saad was given a checking-from-behind major and ejected for a dirty hit on winger Anthony Hamburg (he apparently was not injured)."
I figured the 5 goals against Michigan would come up when RIT's lack of scoring was mentioned. Although some on here were "offended" by Berenson's pooh-poohing of the Tigers' goals as "unearned", the highlights I saw seemed to agree with that sentiment for at least two or three of the goals (although I would not call them unearned, just a bit soft). One of the goals appeared to be pushed in by the goaltender's skate and a couple others looked quite stoppable. All that aside, they did manage to get 5 against a really good team. However, I'd be surprised if they reach or exceed 5 goals more than 6 or 7 times the rest of the season if nothing changes, that is. Let's hope I'm wrong and a few players or a line or two really break-out as the season progresses.I don't know, I'm hoping that RIT simply had a bad game. We did manage to score 5 goals on Michigan in the first game and 8 against Ottawa, but granted, both goalie situations were questionable for Michigan and Ottawa. Maybe Jeff Smith will be our savior?
Yes, I do remember that. I also remember that after an impressive start to the 2010-2011 season for a freshman, his production fell off considerably in the second half of that season and never picked back up through the 2011-12 season either. While we've seen flashes of talent from Lynch and he certainly appears to be a hard-working player, the numbers just haven't been there. I think any reasonably talented player could have succeeded on the Brenner-Favot line. Those two were just that good together (and apart, for that matter). Also, remember that lynch was part of that great favot-brenner line.

I thought there was a quote on the radio or one of the stories saying that he "was not hurt". I'm not 100% on that. Anyone else?
Watson was out of position but again the Penn state player was left all alone in front and Watson had to try to slide across the crease to make the save. You could argue the penn state player was given a little too much time to poke at it after Watson went to cover. I'm not sure how Foote still had his eye on the puck on the far side of the net
On the 2nd goal the Penn State player smacked the rebound out of the air after he was allowed to walk in alone
3rd goal was a shot through what looked like a little bit of a screen, could argue it was stoppable.
I went back and watched the highlights of Madalora's BCA game (it was umass not colgate) and you could argue the first umass goal and the last were weak but really I didn't see much difference other than the RIT highlights in general were better that game

4th goal from UMass: there's that good ol' Favs-Lynch-Brenner line I miss.
So... any chance we'll have a goal tender with < 3.5 GAA this season?
Ughh tough one. RIT's offense isnt the issue so far... Feel bad for Jordan two tough games giving up that many goals. Not all of them his fault of course but some soft ones. He was strong too in the first two periods but it seems like he loses his confidence and then its gone quick. Give Maclean a shot tomorrow vs Colgate. See what he can do!
This team is embarrassing right now.
The offense, well, it's okay. 4 goals isn't a bad night. But they could easily had 6-8 with the amount of empty nets we whiffed on AGAIN this week. This team seriously needs to work on finishing it's chances. And maybe learning to hit the net instead of shooting over top of it. Not to mention were, what, 1-16 on the powerplay so far this year? Seems like one step forward two steps back offensively.
The defense is bipolar to the extreme. When they are on, they were great. Lots of blocked shots and takeaways and winning their battles. On the other hand, they gave up a bunch of odd man rushes (again) and had some gnarly turnovers (again).
But really the problem is in net. I really, really hope that Maclean gets a start in the next week or two, because this team is going nowhere fast with Ruby and Watson. Ruby has given up 13 goals in 2 games! I'll give him the bad game against Michigan, but to go out against Robert Morris and just lay an egg like that? Unacceptable. Most of those goals were all on him tonight as well, he got beat on slapshots to the glove side 3 times in 85 seconds. Watson stole a win in Michigan, but that is starting to look more and more like a fluke for the entire team. He looked soft against Penn State and I just don't want to hang this teams hat on him, either. It might turn out that Maclean isn't everything we're hoping he is either, but if we send out Ruby again without giving the freshman a shot I will be very disappointed.
This is one of the most disheartening and embarrassing losses I can recall in the last few years.
