Re: Rep Retirement Thread 130: Revolutions Abound!

How did I ever find time to get all this crap done while I was working?

Re: Rep Retirement Thread 130: Revolutions Abound!

Congrats, Hp! I assume this is a good thing? (The only thing I know about ships is that they're full of seamen! :D )

Hahaha, yes it's a very good thing. I am now officially licensed to be a deck officer (in charge of the navigation of the ship). I aced the retake (10 question test on "advanced" navigation problems).

Advanced navigation, like should the depth always be more than, less than or equal to the draft? ;)

Just remember, don't drink and navigate!

Actually, one of my questions on the test had me figure out what time I would need to leave one location and have enough water at another location to successfully clear an obstruction based on a certain amount of tidal water. Don't worry, I got it right ;)

The last time Twitch said "hello" to a sailor like that, he ended up pinding BPH's monkey.

Re: Rep Retirement Thread 130: Revolutions Abound!

What is pinding? New verb!

Congrats hp! I'll take a lemon drop martini. What?? He said he was buying!

How about the calcs for entering SF harbor in an aircraft carrier? The Enterprise had to pass under the Bay Bridge when tides were low enough that her mast would clear the bridge, but enter the Alameda harbor when it was high enough to clear the sand. At least one captain missed and hung her up. ;)

Also very important, however this isn't a part of my test level (I take the 2nd/3rd mate exam. After 365 days of sea time, I can automatically upgrade my license). Those types of questions would be on the Master/Chief mate exam I'm fairly certain.

What they call "Air draft" is a very important, but often forgotten part of safe navigation.

Charlie Sheen just got a Twitter account. When I started following him, exactly 5 minutes ago, he already had 7,000 people following him. I just checked again, and he has 22,800 people following him. There better some fireworks, and preferably a whole bunch of Adanis DNA and Winning.

You telling me the Enterprise couldn't clear a path no matter what the tide:D
