I received an unknown amount of money from Mr. Jack Ellis Harry. I will use the average to date. The total is now $792,105,148.56.

I received $1.5M from Kenneth M. Alexander. The total is now $793,605,148.56.

Yep, new record attendance for the State Fair yesterday. Increase of 20,000.

https://www.mnstatefair.org/about-the-fair/attendance/

My wife and I ended up there on Saturday instead of Sunday. That was a mistake. She's in a friend's wedding come February, and there was a bride's dress shopping thing in the morning. So she and a friend went to the fair from that thing, and I tried to get there by driving to a park and ride. Those P&R buses were all out of schedule because Energy Park Drive was more park than drive by the time I got there, and so it took me almost 90 minutes to get from Snelling & County Rd C to the fair's entrance gates. I should've walked it.

And 222K is too many people to be at the fair all at once. There wasn't anywhere to move when you're in the main sections of that place.

Good Morning Lodge!

That many people? Nope. I like people but not when there are so many you can't move. Same feeling about Christmas shopping in the Mall.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 197: Hot! Hot! Hot!

So, a couple weeks ago I had a delivery driver forget to bring the pop that I ordered. He apologized and said he would go back and get it (not the first time this has happened with this driver, but he always came back), and didn't come back. It was only a few dollars and not the end of the world, so I just let it go and decided not to order from there for a few months. Just knocked on my door and gave me 2 bottles. Apparently, he had a delivery in the complex and it jogged his memory.

I was there for the all time record day. Saturday was nothing compared to that day. Even machinery hill was packed to the gills. You couldn’t sit down anywhere because people were just standing or walking everywhere and there wasn’t any room. Lines for pronto pups were 10 minutes or longer. Passing by Sweet Martha’s was equivalent to trying to change subway trains in Tokyo during rush hour.

The extra 45,000-50,000 people filled all of the interstitial spaces between the masses on Saturday. It was hellish.

That 242K Sunday? I was there also, but left by about 2pm when it was getting REALLY jammed up. That was too much for me.

As for the Park-N-Rides, agree with Clown. Took me just as long to get from Hopkins Crossroad to the exit, as from the exit to the bus corral. And that was at about 9am. And forget the "every 15 minutes a bus leaves" from that PNR. It was a continuous line of buses. The ramp (or "car park" for you easterners ;) ) was full soon after I parked (about a dozen empty spots when I got there).

The record is 260k, not 242k.

RFAlph? Did you forget to yawn?

Good Morning Lodge!

It is nasty as heck here. Went for a walk and I think I lost a litre fluid in just 2 1/2 miles. Blech.

We drove by some state fair a few yrs ago on the way to Indiana. Remember passing buy fields and fields of cars. When I think of Fair I think country, cows, horses, other livestock, hokey things. This sounds like a sh1tshow

The MN State Fair is tucked into a small suburb that sits right between St. Paul and Minneapolis, so it's a bit unlike most fairs, in that regard. Also, it's a large plot of land. Here's a map.

We go to a Maine county fair- it is small and more fits into the 'rural' idea I have.

You have to finish high at the county fair, and then you get an invite to the State Fair, at least for 4H. For open class, anyone can sign up.

You ever go to the Topsfield fair? I went once years ago. I've never been to the Big E out in the western part of the state.

I went to Topsfield yrs ago but at night so don't really remember much (for more reasons than one :p ) Never been to the Big E but I hear it is really big compared to what we go to.

bb_dl I am sure that is the case with this as well. I guess I never thought about it. It seems that many of these places do a sort of circuit of the smaller fairs. My favorite is the horse pulling. We are feet from where they are pulling and it is impressive to see the diff ways the guys (no gals seem to do this) approach it.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 197: Hot! Hot! Hot!

Another day sitting outside trying to figure out why this genset won't stabilize when syncing with the grid. Took until 4:30 to figure it out. Again in the rain, all morning. At least I finally figured out which parameter in the cal was messing us up, otherwise would be back out there tomorrow. Now, instead, should be getting my Russia trip booked tomorrow.

I haven't posted a yawn in quite a while.

They have various horse demos at the MN State Fair, and other showings of animals, and an auction, too. Machinery Hill used to be a huge draw, but it isn't what it used to be, due to declining family farming and such. The Princess Kay is still a big thing: the winner gets a sculpture of her likeness, made out of butter. I think there are other butter-carving sculptures, also. Always gets a decent crowd to see the carvers.

Music, food, and drink are basically the big 3 draws to the MN Fair. Lots of special offerings from places and such. And of course, the age-old tradition of people-watching.
