Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #182: Snow!

Good morning Lodge. No ruined morning as I have a long day here at work. I'm bummed because they lost and feel for Maguire as he played the game of his life. Not sure if it would be worse if they just out and out lost, like 5-1 or something.

Need to check the weather in Detroit as I change planes there around 6am tomorrow.

Going to be chilly, but today's snow should be over by then (famous last words).

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #182: Snow!

And even so, Detroit is known as one of the better airports for snow operations.

That's all because the Great New Years Storm of 1999 was so awful. We were flying Spirit back from Fort Myers that year, and after we landed, we ended up stuck on the apron for 3 hours because they did not have enough plows activated to clear gate space. We were actually rather lucky, as Northwest ended up paying several million dollars in compensation to some of their passengers who were effectively imprisoned onboard their aircraft for over 8 hours.

DTW underwent a major winter operations overhaul after that disaster, in coordination with the new terminal developments. Our airport has gotten so much better in the last 15 years, it's nuts.

To be charitable, it had some room for improvement.;) In about 89-91 I was doing a lot of work at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak and flying in and out of DTW frequently. It, like Pittsburgh Airport, felt like it was in a third world country. I always expected to see travelers with cages of chickens moving through those two. I also had the joy of flying into DTW a couple years earlier the night when NWA flight 255 crashed into the freeway ramp. At least we weren't on that flight.

Oh, I'm well aware. My family spent our share of time in the time capsule from the 60s that they called the L.C. Smith Terminal.

Good evening Lodge.

Congrats Lady wore Black.

I had to pick up little g from school today as he wasn't feeling the best. So I get little g situated and I turn on the tv and a movie called The Hungover Games is on. I'm not much of a movie/tv watcher but I ended up watching it from start to finish. Even though I will never get that time back it's one of those movies that is so bad that it's good. No not really.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #182: Snow!

So I'll be spending Thanksgiving in Belfast with my old man. That's pretty neat.

SLU is over at the Friendship Tourney next season, and I have enough credit card rewards to cover basically all the travel expenses for both of us. Didn't take much arm twisting for either of us.

I will be in the neighborhood around the same time. My daughter was accepted into the study abroad program she really wanted to get into so she will be in Galway for fall semester. We hope to visit her and will probably try to spend a week with her in Ireland. :) Most likely in mid-December before her semester ends then another week in Netherlands, Belgium, France (Normandy), & Luxembourg. We should know her schedule next month.

Don't forget the AIC fans, assuming that they have some. :)

I am a proud owner of an AIC jersey. :)

And gmann, I have heard of that movie, and even as a fan of bad movies, I have no desire to watch that one. Look up "Birdemic." I have never finished that movie, and even tried to watch it twice. That should give "Hungover Games" some perspective.

Bemidji State beat Minnesota Duluth, moving the Engineers up two places in the Pairwise. Yes, other games matter. https://twitter.com/without_a_peer/status/697264709272281096

Also slid the MIT of the Midwest out of our tie with Robert Morris and into sole possession of 18th, which makes our games at BSU next weekend that much more relevant (in addition to the quest for home ice/the MacNaughton).

SCSU was never tied with RMU in the PWR.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #182: Snow!

Red eye flight Seattle-Detroit and three rows behind me....screaming baby. I think that should not be allowed. If there was ever a flight to ban babies, red eyes would be it. I think it's almost child abuse to force a baby to change its sleep patterns and fly them overnight. I'm exhausted and want to try and sleep but that apparently won't be happening.

Good morning Lodge. Here in the Detroit airport waiting to board my flight home.
