Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

Thanks, all. I kept this pretty close to the vest. Only a couple people knew the exact plan, and a very small handful knew this was coming in the near future. Given the "family reunion" feel at the Gopher tailgate (especially with last year's discovery of melmac expecting) it just seemed right to add another chapter to the "good juju" (c) WPoS (GPL poster) of the lot. She didn't even have a clue that I had gotten her father's blessing.

Funny story: a couple weeks ago, shopping for my niece's b-day gift, we stopped by the jewelry dept b/c she wanted her finger sized for a ring. I brushed it off/"Oh c'mon, really?" etc. I had already bought the ring a month prior. :D
So... no more ghetto apartment living?

I live in swanky Minnetonka! In the future I'll be living in the sticks, aka Delano (for the non-locals, it's about 15 minutes out of the metro area loop of the well-known suburbs, 20 minutes from me). They have an Applebee's, though! ;)

Two years after I bought it, I finally opened and setup my network printer. It took over an hour to get the right danged driver installed for it, too. Now that it's running, works just fine though.

Cowboy Jack's was fun. Thankful they were burning my drinks for me. Night all. See you in the morning for bloodys and hockey talk!

So, uh....Madre said yes. :eek::D

Showed up at the tailgate lot at sunrise, and popped the question. Yes, on bended knee and everything. Quite a start to a fun day. :)

This reminds me of a quotation: "Any man who is unmarried at the age of eighteen is a menace to the community." -Brigham Young

And, while I think BY takes it a bit far, I do believe that a good marriage is the best thing that can happen to a man. It civilizes us, reminding us that the manly way to act is to take care of others.

Brent, please conduct an experiment, and let all your close friends here at USCHO know how it goes. See if your marriage follows this path:

First few/several months: general happiness, but some suppressed irritation getting used to the idea that your free time is no longer solely your own to do with as you please.
Next few/several months: increased happiness, all the cohabitation-related compromises worked out, but still with a bit of nostalgia for "deeds of days long vanished".
Next few/several years: each day better than the last, aided by the realization that the sound advice to "always believe that you'll never find a better woman" is more than just something it is helpful to pretend, but is in fact absolutely true.

Best wishes.

And beat Ohio State today!

If he is doing this, this means we have to hang around here for a long time.
