Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

Got my A/C fixed in the truck yesterday. Which was a bit frustrating, since it is not even 2 years old, but they said that it was a faulty freon line, that was bad from the factory, and it was all under warranty, so I guess I can't complain too much. At least there was no money out of my pocket, and I got to take Beau for a Monday drive, which he thoroughly enjoys. Yesterday he was standing with his front feet on the center console, and his back on the back seat, so I opened the sun roof, and he stuck his head out of the top of the truck for a while. He loved it, he even liked it better than sticking his head out the window!

The siding and windows on the house are almost done. Lowes apparently damaged some of the siding when they were moving it around, so the installers sent it back. Since it is special order, it will be 3 weeks before they get replacement pieces. All but one small section of the house is done, and all of the windows are done. Haven't trimmed the windows on the inside yet, because the rooms that were done are going to get renovated soon, so there is no need to put trim on the windows only to take it off again.

Final planning is getting done with the wedding. I'm trying to keep the stress level low with the fiance, sometimes it works better than others. I'm trying to get her to delegate some stuff to other people, so she doesn't have to worry about everything, and I think she is finally seeing the light on that. :p

I thought I bricked my work computer yesterday afternoon. I restarted it because it was being its normal piece of **** self, and when it restarted all I got was a black screen that was saying that the booting procedure had changed, and failed, and that I needed a 32 digit key code to reset it. Tried restarting again...same thing. It was late enough in the day that I said "**** it" shut the computer and went home. Figured I deal with it in the morning. Started it up this morning and it worked fine.

The cast comes off today! Looking forward to soaking the leg/ankle/foot tonight. Not sure how mobile I'll be right away or if I will get a boot or brace to protect it as it finishes healing.

That's going to feel great. I remember when I only broke my ankle how good it felt to get my leg into the bath, and again with my shoulder last year, a similar thing after only a few days of not being able to bathe because of it. Best of luck with the remainder of the healing process.

At Tech we call that experience "being a Computer Science major."

What's the difference between a quality engineer and a quality technician? The engineer knows that the metal tray is conductive.

I won't get too much into the office politics, but basically the operations manager doesn't want to ask the quality department questions ever, so he's training a production person to be a "quality technician".

Anyway, it gave me a bit too much pleasure when the technician asks me what might be causing the leads to short to the header. I notice he has the parts held in a metal tray. I mention that if any of the leads are touching the tray, that is why he's seeing a short. Then I find some non-conductive foam he can use to hold the part. Miracle of miracles, the parts aren't shorting through the header. I think he wasted about an hour on that.

So I found out yesterday and confirmed today that the main offsite guy is switching to the overnight shift, for family reasons. That means as of right now, I become the main offsite guy. DHead Boss is on VAC until tomorrow, and obviously my VAC starts tomorrow, so I was talking with Head Boss, and he knows I really want this offsite position to be a permanent one. I would start half hour earlier but I also would not be required to stay until the very end of the day, like the shift I'm on now. More often than not, I'd just go home from the off site location, usually between 6-6:30.

I've been wanting this position since it was created, and it's not a position one applies for. You are just chosen for it. Fingers crossed, and hoping.

Need a reference? :)
Good luck!

Good luck. Don't do whatever it takes to get the position. If you know what I mean. ;)

Regarding the ASG. I realize that Jeter is one hell of a ball player and will go down as one of the greats. However, am I the only person on earth that does not have a hard on for him?

I don't care about Jeter.

And thanks for the well-wishes, guys. Since it's become pretty common knowledge at this point everywhere else, might as well say it here, too (had mentioned it in the Extras thread): Rubette left me, final nail in the coffin was this past weekend. What does this have to do with the job? I had added incentive to wish for it so I would be able to spend more time in the evening with my future family. Ain't that a kick in the nuts? :(

Nope. (Even if I was a girl I still wouldn't be in that state...)

Sorry. Without knowing the details I hope everything works out for all involved.
