Also:

Hi Lodge.

Got terrible news this evening. One of the hockey moms in our association died unexpectedly this morning. Don't know the full details yet, but she had been feeling ill for the past few days, called 911 at 3 Am and was dead by 6 AM. Very, very sweet lady and much too young. Leaves behind an 8th grader and a 5th grader. Her husband is a pilot for American so she had to shuttle the boys to all their games and practice most of the time due to the dad's travel.

Condolences, goldy. :( That sucks for the family - hopefully the association comes together for the kids.

Soooo, Private Romeo, a twist of Romeo and Juliet of the homosexual variety, was filmed at my alma mater, and has our logo ALL over many scenes. From what I've gathered from people at the school, it's pretty much a military high school institution where these 2 gay guys essentially get bashed/harrassed, whatever you want to call it.

Yep, there goes any donations I was going to make to the school. I'm not against the homosexual stuff, that's fine, but the school pretty much 'endorsing' the bashing by having the movie shot there and our school logos and name everywhere on it... yaaaaa not okay.

This seems kind of weird to me..

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 141: We Didn't Start The (* Hockey Table On) Fire

So... I have a friend who is a teacher, he's won two awards the last two years, including a Golden Apple Award, with a masters in elementary education. He's single, with no kids, in his early forties. He is a christian man, teaches sunday school at our church, attends every sunday, etc. A new principal came to his school three years ago, and has never really seen eye to eye with my friend. This principal didn't congratulate my friend on either of his awards. My friend was put on leave. He has now resigned, whether he was told to or not, is beyond me. Allegedly the principal stated that he had said the word sex while reading a textbook, a question came up about it, and a child in the class felt uncomfortable and told his parents, prompting a call to the principal. My friend states that he did not even use the word sex out of a book, and that this accusation is false. I fully believe him. This principal has been accused of calling kids into his office, second graders at that, to question them about my friend's teaching and the incident. Here's the catch; none of the kids' parents were notified. When this was brought up to the superintendent, the principal stated he didn't do so, and she believed him. A few days later the mom of a girl questioned had a voicemail on her answering machine apologizing for questioning the daughter without notification. This mom is very active and has started a committee in support of my friend, and against the principal. Many feel he's running a kind of "dictatorship" at the school. There is a lot of support from the families at the school, of past and current students. There is a school board meeting Tuesday, and the mom is bringing a recording of the voicemail. I understand it's likely too late for my friend to retain his job, or to work in the district again, but it would be nice if this kind of a situation could be avoided in the future, thus why I think parents are taking action.

Something just doesn't add up, I don't know what it is. I asked him straight up if he did something inappropriate that he shouldn't have. He stated very sincerely that he didn't. (Thank God)

I feel horrible as this friend since he was a kid has wanted to teach, to help others learn, to help grow young people and make them better people in and out of the classroom. He had his motivation in life, everything he wanted to do taken away from him.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 141: We Didn't Start The (* Hockey Table On) Fire

*long story about a teacher getting railroaded out of school by a power tripping principal*

Contact your local media outlets. BS like this spreads like wildfire in the media. Especially if Digg, Reddit, Fark and/or (heaven forbid) The Message Board That Must Not Be Named pick it up. Then people start stumbling across the principal's and senior staff's e-mail addresses and phone numbers. Tends to bring about a change of heart in a hurry.

And we wonder why there's such a demand for good teachers.

ETA: At its heart, the problem is schools being paranoid about liability. If (hypothetically) they leave the teacher in and he later goes full Sandusky, word gets out that they were warned about this guy and it's lawsuit city. That's why you see so many zero tolerance policies today. Zero tolerance policy in place = removal of liability for the school.

Congratulations! Good thing you found a sugar momma with a good job to support your sub-teaching hobby and Bulldog habit. ;)

ETA: Thanks to those who have offered condolences from the last thread. Some of the other hockey moms have established a "Helping Hands" site to help the family in any ways we can.

hp1015: It's not supposed to be some non-fiction tale that happened AT the school, is it? If it were, it would make sense to leave all the logos up, and in exchange have the movie company do a PR blitz about how the school has gotten more enlightened.

MavHockey14: That's REALLY strange. Twitch has a point, kick it upstairs and turn up the heat - either your teacher friend will come clean about something he did (hopefully he's already clean!) or the school board will be forced to reinstate him.

Morning, Lodge. About the Freddy... yeah, it was late, and I couldn't remember all the board memes. :o

Oh, and Biddco: good luck, chump. ;) Congrats to you and MEg!
