Well he was splendid and now he isn't. He must have deleted some posts.
He could have deleted some posts, or someone else might have deleted a thread where he posted a lot. As to the change of message, that's probably due a recent influx of NegRep.

Well I know it was partially my fault. He was splendid before I hit the enter button.:p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 104: Back To Normal Sports

I'm playing some rationalizations in my head and its not something I could pull off right now (rent lease through October)... but...

just a general question... do new condo buildings tend to be cheaper? I saw some place whose price I question... but it appears to be near work and from what I can tell the area tends to be depressed by its general crime rate and related issues.

Not sure if I'd want to move away from the city but on the other hand, I have to look out for my own interest and if I get a car that can make me more mobile in general.

You're considering a place near Suitland?

Basically, PG county is cheaper.

a colleague pointed out a place out in the capitol heights/seat pleasant area that was in the area of 200K.

Trust me, I'd do all kinds of homework before deciding on something like that BUT... if that's really what it is and the crime particulars aren't hairy then that's not only reasonable but I could get a car and not have to worry about savings so much since I'd have the 2 things I'd want to save up for in the first place. A car would give me access to the city.

On the other hand, I am starting to make friends in my neighborhood. I'm not sure what I'll want to do by then anyways. Its DC, you have to make trade-offs.

In some ways I'd like to settle into a place and make it my own (and not be cramped into a glorified hole). The question is access to locations and making/finding friends. Its a problem with no easy answer. I could stay where I am for the next few years and see what happens... i just don't know.

Have fun Patman! I'm kinda dealing with the same thing. So many of the places that are in the price range that I'm looking at are in some unsavory neighborhoods. (Brooklyn Park/Center, for those in the TC's) We have gone to see many houses that we automatically say "no" to, just by the neighborhood. :(

I've been having some bad luck, with just barely getting beat out (twice because someone submitted a bid before me, and one of those I even had the higher bid) on the 3 houses that I have made an offer on. I'm starting to expand my search, and found a bunch more to check out that are a little further away from work, up in the meth hotbed of Andover/Ham Lake/East Bethel. :p

Right now its somebody else at work who is trying to find a condo... but she's letting me know about her search.

If I were working in Boston I probably would have moved to some place closer in to Boston but split between there and Lowell because I know I could meet people off-shooting from hockey. Here in DC I'm still trying to find my way. I don't want to live too far out because I don't want to be isolated from things. I need the opportunities of the city right now. Again, I'm still making friends... but you know, if I can swing a place which is more than affordable, and then be able to get a car, then it feels like the rest comes into place the way I want it.

I think I find myself trying to shoot the moon. Get everything I ever wanted and then some... but i suppose that's all a matter of finding my place in life.

I still wonder if I should just hold to my general "5-year plan" idea where I sit it out in my current situation for 5 years, use my resources to improve other aspects of my life and then adjust based on that. On the other hand, property is a short-circuit unto itself.

----

I think you'll find something in your case. You also seem to have a group of friends so it doesn't really matter where you land... its just a staging area and a place to sleep every night. I'm still trying to find my way and if I move away from the city I may lose those opportunities to meet people and do things. Anyhow, I'm sure you'll find some place and you'll be happy with it once you get there.

edit: they certainly don't give you a guidebook for these parts of one's life.

$$$$$$$$$
and I don't want to move closer to the city. I found a couple places north that have a couple acres and some additional buildings that are within my price range. Which would suit me much better than living closer to the city. Ideally, I would be able to get a good paying ME job close to home, so I can live on the farm, but the jobs down there are rare.

You're not looking in the right places, then. If you know where to look you can even find a place in Edina in your price range.

*pbbt* Not quite that warm here yet. Just meandering along the beach on the way to the T. Made it to class on time though and got a 97 on the exam I took. :)

Nice! Good luck, SG - you'll be in my thoughts.
Good job on the exam!

I don't think you realize how low my price range is. :p
Plus, I'm looking for single family homes, not any kind of condo or townhouse, so they're a little more pricey.

Not talking about condos and townhouses. There are some in my neighborhood for around 200K and I think one was going for 120K.

The one my brother bought was around 250K I think and is pretty close to here.
