Re: Religion Thread: That's Me In the Corner...

And what, pray tell, are this *sculpture professor's* opinions about the grassy knoll shooter and the faked moon landing?

Re: Religion Thread: That's Me In the Corner...

1st reports did, but further research now dates it to the 1st century.

Does it really matter that Shroud of Turin and the Sudarium of Oviedo covered the same person? Does it matter that they did or did not have anything to do with Christ? All you need is the Word, not a relic.

And just like that the Lutheran opens up the slap fight with the Catholics!

Well, given that scripture is a hodgepodge of mutually contradictory directions, it's nice to have a little independent confirmation that it wasn't just some ignorant Middle Eastern hayseeds pulling stuff out of their butts, if you're going to try to build a theory of the universe around it.

Also: relics really bring the money in.

I'm a reformed Catholic, so I've examined things very closely from both fronts. It's obvious to me that Luther's reformation brought things back to where they should have been in the first place, placing all belief in the inspired recorded Word of God (directed towards Kelper:)) and not human traditions and human opinions. It's too bad the Pope didn't see the wisdom of what Luther was advocating.

Hey, the Pope's got his rice bowl, too. :)

Sola scriptura means goodbye to 2000 years of gold-leafed lard. You can't just ditch Holy Mother Church. It's good for jobs!

It's good for art and architecture, too. If you're gonna believe in an invisible man, you might as well get some pretty stuff out of it.

Thought-provoking article that makes me want to look at the source material, which is not something I would say about 99.99% of the books re: "Biblical archaeology" (which are typically just exercises in tub thumping by the Kook of the Week).

Nope. But if it's Michener I'll bet it begins with 800 pages describing the beginning of time. :)

80 pages. :). Very good historical fiction around an archeological dig in Israel pre 1967 war.

If you have dead time (during the Philadelphia convention), sit down and read it.

I plan to spend the entire Philly convention inebriated.

I'll vote for her. I'll even campaign for her. But I'll be ****ed if I'm going to watch her coronation.
