Religion Thread: ...and suddenly, everyone's a theology scholar

Re: Religion Thread: ...and suddenly, everyone's a theology scholar

Looking for clarification. Just don't know if any 'atheists' or whatever you call yourself are capable of dialog. All one sees out of you is immature anti faith rhetoric.

Religion is ice cream.

A creed is a flavor of ice cream.

Monotheists go to a Baskin-Robbins with only one flavor.

Fundamentalists go to a Baskins-Robbins where you are not permitted any toppings.

Dominionists believe everyone should be marched at gunpoint to their Baskin-Robbins.

Re: Religion Thread: ...and suddenly, everyone's a theology scholar

Pretty big talk, considering you continuously claim atheists are immoral.

Nope. Atheists are often quite moral. But, atheism does not have a moral platform so it doesn't come from there...and it is really just a belief/philosophy of 'no'.

Feed My Starving Children is powered by believers and non-believers alike. Same with Habitat. Both are Christian organizations that get a significant amount of volunteer hours from secular sources. My division alone probably donates over 200 hours to each of those organizations annually. When ever we do a FMSC event, we’re usually one of three or four companies packing food that day and we’re doing this multiple times a year in just my area alone.

This isn’t mean to minimize their role in organizing these efforts. They do a great job. But be careful crediting all of the work to Christian sources. Because it’s not. A significant portion of the volunteering comes from secular sources.

Absolutely. A primary outcome of faith (based on its tenants) is to help shepherd society to the greater good.

That is a grossly simplistic and unhelpful way to define atheism, 5mn. In fact, it suggests a binary way of thinking that is, itself, a philosophy of no.

I've said time and again, I have a large number of atheist friends...most are really cool people. But I always stand by everything I say.

This is all wiki has in its definition:

Atheism is, in the broadest sense, the absence of belief in the existence of deities. Less broadly, atheism is the rejection of belief that any deities exist. In an even narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities. Atheism is contrasted with theism, which, in its most general form, is the belief that at least one deity exists.

Sounds like a lot of words to say what I just said. Is it simplistic? Maybe, but there really doesn't appear to be anything else.

Is it unhelpful? Look at the evidence based on commentary initiated by aggressive non believers in this thread. Pretty much 90%+ of all new ideas initiated by them here are a) strictly the worst Christian behavior (they mirror bad Rush L. journalism) b) refute God. I will discuss alternative beliefs, scripture and other cool things going on that align with things I believe. I don't recall any posts where these posters initiate a commentary by saying 'hey, this is what I believe' or 'here's an example of the cool atheists do' or anything else. Whether they are accurate, helpful or not, their posts are apparently a pretty clear manifestation of 'no' to God or Christianity.

Tell me where I'm wrong.

He appears to literally not be able to grasp the concept. I have rarely met a theist who is so limited in his imagination as to think that not believing in four leaf clovers is a "philosophy of no." But it makes him feel better, I guess.

The best I can do for him is, "you know how you feel about Zeus? That's how I feel about your God. Now, do you hate Zeus? You don't even give Him a thought, do you? Do you feverishly think 'there is no tea kettle suspended in orbit'? No?"

Exactly.

In 2015, after I came out as an atheist, I had a Christian tell me on my birthday that I need to repent or I was bound for hell.

I've had Christians tell me my depression and bipolar was God's will.

My aunt said I was no longer family because of my sexual orientation.

My best friend told me I was "confused." She just broke up with me.

I've been verbally attacked on my Facebook page by Christians after coming out.

I've cried myself to sleep at night because of this stuff. But you want to sit here and tell me Christians hold the moral high ground.

Honestly, don't let them get to you. They're morons.

I would go with he brings that up when he has no other response to what ever you are saying. Kinda like you know who and the emails.

You got a load of garbage. Its terrible that it came from Christians. I know everything you've said about yourself and I for one am totally supportive across the board.

Nobody holds the moral high ground. Nobody. And you may not believe this...but the Gospel Word itself is pretty high ground. Not individuals.

I would go with he brings that up when he has no other response to what ever you are saying.

Like when Kep equated your God to Osama Bin Laden, arguably the worst enemy this country has ever known? Yeah, neither of us had too much to say then.

Oh goody, you're white knighting for you and your Oh So Christian friends.

I generally hear one of three responses:

A: "We love and support you no matter what!"

B: "You made a decision. I disagree, but whatever."

C: "You made a decision and I'm going to act like you just shot my dog and poured sugar in my gas tank!"

I have A people in my life. Definitely love them. Wish more of them would speak up.

I have B people. I wish they would get in, sit down, and hold on.

And there are C people. They're a tiny amount, but they make a lot of noise. Hard to hear the As over the loudmouths.

And I'm finding fault with the phrase "I disagree," because too often, the rest of the sentence is "with your right to exist."

Except the atheist card is your response to thoughtful posts that you can't refute. Not sure if you are actively trolling or if you are in your own little world but active debate means acknowledging the point made and then coming up with something that makes your point. Saying someone can't get it because they are an atheist and or bringing up things they said not related to topic is not relevant. If you want to evangelize this is not the way. Certainly wasn't how Jesus went about it. Its no different from the extremists on the other side who probably feel just as righteous.
