I’m not as convinced as I once was.

How come?

1. They hate soporific liberal hypocrisy.

2. There are going to be a lot of them, between higher birth rates and high immigration of children in their cohort. They will be as dominant demographically as the Boomers.

3. They are going to have the most power of any generation in history. It will be delayed by longer life span, but when it happens it will happen almost all at once. They will initially gain power before they have been co-opted. They will simultaneously have both the will and the means to make radical change.

4. They will come to power on the heels of the spectacular collapse of the Right and its exposure as fascist. There will be no lying to them the way Reagan et al did to our cohort: like the generation coming of age during WW2, they will understand from personal experience precisely what the Right is.

They haven’t shown to me a very good resistance to nonsense being fed to them through social media.

I’ll just come out and say it. My doubts have risen after the 10/07/2023 attack in Israel. I totally get that Likud and Netanyahu more than helped set the stage, but the ensuing calls to eliminate Israel altogether and make everyone go back to “where they came from” sound familiar.

Everything repeats. Generations be damned. People are people.

1) Ok, Boomer.

2) Higher birth rates? I don't think so. Millennials have yet to eclipse Boomers, and as an elder millennial I can confirm we're having fewer kids than Boomers.

3) Doubtful. Millennials are between the ages of 28 and 43 right now and yet we've still got shit for power, and our demographic bubble isn't going to just stay silent once the Boomers finally fall by the wayside.

4) Maybe. But that remains to be seen. I can agree white kids will tend more liberal, but I'm less sold on the rising Hispanic population continuing to be solidly in the Dems corner. Frankly they probably would already be solidly Republican if the GOP would stop being so racist.

1) No, the Boomers are the decrepit liberals in this picture. The Gen Z/Alphas have the potential to slingshot much farther Left, leaving them behind entirely. You're using the meme the wrong way.

2) Not higher than the Boomers, higher relative to what comes after the Boomers. I think you may have just not understood my entire post. This isn't about now, it's about after all the Boomers are dead, buried, and unmourned.

3) GenXers and Millennials are never going to be in power, that's the point. The basketball is being passed over their head. There are ignored generations. It's not their fault, it's the bad demographic luck of coming after the Boomers who will clutch power close to their malevolent chests long past when a normal generation has relinquished it, because of their size and also because of the peculiar lack of social mobility due to the Great American Betrayal of Reagan. This isn't ha ha you suck, it's oh god you poor people are f-cked. But, luckily, generations aren't real anyway...

4) We will see. I don't necessarily see the Democrats benefitting. While the GOP is inoperable cancer, the Democrats are syphilis, and the Keeeeds may go another way entirely. The Dems were complicit in the last fifty years' slide into Neoliberal feudalism. Their leadership fought to make the ruling class diverse, but they made sure to keep the ruling class intact and sleepwalking to NPR, Jon Stewart, and Stephen Colbert while 90% of Americans' lives were ruined. A democratic generation of people who have nothing to lose may colonize the Democratic party, but they may also just kick over the table on both sad sack parties and start over without all the virulent baggage of co-opted, cowardly, commercialized corporate liberalism.

One thing about democracy. They comin' rougher every time. They killed the divine right kings in the 17th century, and the arrogant aristos in the 19th century. They may just come for the cleverly ironic suburbanites in the 21st.

But we do still have to murder the Right and dump it in a lime pit, first.

Your math doesn't work. Millennials are the echo of Boomers and are the biggest generation since the Boomers. Gen Z/Alphas are the echo of Gen X, which itself is smaller than the preceding and subsequent generations. Millennials are bigger than Gen Z demographically. Our kids aren't even labeled yet, but they're going to be a smaller generation (but maybe bigger than Gen Z since there are more parents) still because birth rates aren't increasing but decreasing, which in itself is a good thing from a world population standpoint but means power will continue to favor the olds based on simple numbers: there will simply be more of us.

More statutory rape from the Death Cult.

A former Norwalk youth minister who has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing boys in Norwalk and Bridgeport pleaded guilty Wednesday to paying an intellectually disabled teenager to have sex with him dozens of times in the basement of his Shelton home.

It's always exactly who you assume it is.

Bernard is accused of sexually assaulting eight boys after meeting them through the church.

In one arrest warrant affidavit, he is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 10-year-old boy at the boy’s home in Bridgeport and in the parking lot behind Madison School. The boy later told police that Bernard told the boy he would kill him, his sister and his father if the boy told anyone what Bernard had done to him, the affidavit states.

Praise Jesus!

Another win for the faith-based community.

Best part:

"We took God at his word and sold a cryptocurrency with no clear exit," Regalado in his video address Friday. "What we're believing for still is that God is going to do a miracle. God is going to work a miracle in the financial sector."

In the comments on Regalado's video, dozens of people continue to reassure him that God will "turn the situation around."

Reminds me of the real life story of one of the men who sold the Brooklyn Bridge getting spotted by his victim in Europe years later... and being begged for other tips.

There is a non-trivial portion of the population which simply exists to be shucked. I'm not saying they disproportionately hang out in churches, but...
