The post above was supposed to be a reply to # 17, but I forgot to link the quote. Still too early here in the North Woods. I blame it on all the snow and ice affecting my cognitive function. At the end of March, ice belongs on a rink, not on my roof...

I would suggest that we could play this year's MW Regional on frozen ponds such as Lake Michigan, Lake Superior, or Lake Huron, though I think attendance would be about as low as I'm presuming it was for Ferris-Colgate. We still have plenty of ice here to share with our neighbors. Good for happy hours.

Maybe because they want to sell more full priced tickets. There were reports that they released more than the initial 400 seats to each school. Even though they sold 6500 tickets for today, would not be surprised to see only 4K azzes in seats today at the east final with QPAC out.

5390 in cinn- imagine what it would have been if North Dakota wasn't shifted
Guess low pricing didn't help much
with 6529 in Bridgeport and Quinn eliminated both sites should see less people today

Given the distances to Cincinnati, I'm surprised at how good the attendance was.
* Big Rapids (Ferris) 420 miles
* Madison 450 miles
* Hamilton (Colgate) 620 miles
* Grand Forks (ND) 1010 miles

Would that really matter? If I were planning to go, called up my school and they said they were out of tickets, I wouldn't be thinking, "oh well, I guess I can't get a ticket, then," and decide not to go after all. People who plan to travel to regionals are generally not "casual" fans - I have to think they would know that regionals do not sell out.

I heard they were not selling upper deck tickets. That should tell people nobody is going. I got center ice club level the other day. Plus I am sure most gopher fans will leave after their game. I am not going to be there until the end of the or after the Gopher myself.

While not exactly a great crowd, there were easily twice as many people in CIncy yesterday for the second game than there were at any time last year for either session in Toledo. I was afraid the low ticket prices would not have a positive effect because the people that want to attend these things and travel at all are the diehards anyway and would be least likely to be put off by ticket prices that were a little high. Happily though I think the cheapest regional tickets in years (cheaper by a little bit than I paid in 2009 at Van Andel) may have had that positive effect. It would have been interesting to see if Toledo could have had a similar crowd with tickets that were $40 instead of $75 for an all session pass. Hopefully Notre Dame takes notice for next year. If the Irish make it, the place will be full, so don't get greedy, and if they don't, a decent draw and $40 tickets may still lead to a respectable crowd.

Surprisingly better turnout today in Bridgeport 6,655 attendance, looked like alot of Union and Providence fans made the one day trek, because there were not many yellow or green jerseys in the house today.

6522 reported in Worcester and 9232 reported in St. Paul. In Worcester, the third tier on the side and the upper seats on the end were curtained off. I think that helped with the appearance. So at least we've seen that the Regionals can draw 5000 in the west with a reasonable pricing structure. We'll see if that satisfies the NCAA and if Cincinnati managed to be profitable with the lower prices.

so it ended up being 5,000+ at each regional on day one? that's a success but this may have been the perfect storm in terms of what teams went where.

Ticket prices are too high. Not many kids there. Been my biggest complaint. Just gonna wait for my trip to frozen four. Don't think I'm the only one.

Wow! No one even close to that regional site. 5,000+ is a major accomplishment then.

Love to see a breakdown by zip/area code. See what percentage were local, and how many travelled from afar for each of the regionals.

Historically speaking, and especially considering the distance from participating schools, Cinci has to be seen as a success.

This is great news for those of us who feel prices are too high and a contributing factor to previous poor attendance. Hopefully the NCAA and future venues take notice. We shall see.

attendance today in Worcester was a big disappointment with only 5500
Local teams and less than yesterday and less than Bridgeport
I know the arena is a disaster but close to both schools
