Record Store Day

rufus

rock and roller
is this Saturday. Anyone have plans?

I'm gonna head to Portsmouth, halfway there anyway because of work, and see if I can snag the new four disk vinyl edition of Wilco's live album, Kicking Television. eight bonus tracks. Only 1000 copies released. Ought to be sweet.

nice... any word on what the eight bonus tracks are? unreleased stuff, or just additional songs?

I would assume just more live songs they played during the shows recorded for that disc, that they didn't put on.

Re: Record Store Day

So I went ahead and picked this up. A bit less than $75, but still pricey.

Nice packaging, cardboard box with a cover, much like the Springsteen Live 1975-1985 box set was, nice booklet included with the same photos from the cd release, some cropped somewhat oddly for the larger format, but still nice, ok poster art. Four heavy vinyl LPs in plastic lined paper sleeves, packaged with a layer of bubble wrap in the bottom and top of the box protecting everything.

Have only listened to Ashes of American Flags and Kidsmoke so far, but it sounds just wondeful. Can't make an honest comparison between the cd pressing and this without spending some time and getting into level matching, but to me this sounds better, a bit less dynamic, but the instruments seem better balanced, while remaining quite distinct in the mix. It just feels smoother, sounded just great. Mastered by Bob Ludwig in Portland specifically for vinyl, so you know it'll be done well.

Can't wait to have the time to sit down with it.

Re: Record Store Day

I loved Record Store Day yesterday.

The hubby and I went to The Exclusive Company in Greenfield or Greendale (city limits merge together in that area) and bought some amazing music. We found some great metal albums and in the Record Store Day sales bin, we found Rainbow, Judas Priest, Alice Cooper and a few other that were ridiculously priced. Thank you gift certificate from Christmas. We used all but $.50.
