when mookie returns to the us and passport control asks the "where have you been since last in the us?", mookie takes a deep breath, then starts. (though this is a silly question since the information is all electronically stored in the passport itself nowadays).

If they cheat like that they also cheat during Ramadan. The whole idea is you don't disappoint the Big Guy. He sees you when you're sleeping. Therefore, they're not really believers in which case none of the rituals mean anything and they have no faith.
