Quinnipiac @ St. Cloud State - 10/29-10/30

Pump It Up

The Bobcats are 3-1-0 after an early season split with Ohio State and singular wins over Bentley and Holy Cross.

Meanwhile, SCSU is coming off a split with the Gophers and look forward to a return to the (hopefully more than half full) National Hockey Center.

Fun, fun, fun.

QU is in the ECAC. They are ok this year. I think they were better in past years but you never know.

Re: Quinnipiac @ St. Cloud State - 10/29-10/30

They have not had real challenging schedule so far. Looks like they are struggling to score some goals with 8 in 4 games but do not give up many goals either (so far). Goals against also 8 in 4 games.

This was a red hot team at the start of last year that struggled down the stretch. Hopefully the Husky faithful do not have another embarrassing turn out at the NHC this weekend.

Quinnipiac gets its name from a local indian tribe.

Uh Oh, you sure these native Americans are ok with this college using their name? Being on the east coast I would assume that there would be a great deal of p.c demanding a name change! So let's get some suggestions going here: how about Sioux, they don't care.

Well, they already changed mascots from Braves to Bobcats...

If these games are anything like last year's, they are going to be tight.
Does QU play anyone with an Olympic sheet?

No school in the ECAC owns an ice hockey sheet of Olympic size. Dartmouth uses 200x90, Harvard uses 204x87, the rest are NHL sized. I don't know about their non-conference schedule.

Yeah I agree, the games in Hamden last year were fun to watch. It's always nice for a young ECAC member to get a WCHA school to come out. Unfortunately, last years Bobcat team was led by 5 seniors with a good amount of talent (4 currently playing professionally) while this years Bobcat team has a lone senior so I worry about experience and leadership. This years team does feature Scott Zurevinski who turned down a minor league max contract to come back to QU for at least one more year and two dynamite twin Freshman forwards, Connor and Kellen Jones, Kellen was drafted by Edmonton in this past Spring's draft. After those three, who have been playing on the same line it get's scary (for us)

As far as ice size, the team has great speed and is relatively small (second lightest team in D1 after AFA) with the exception of our lumbering defenseman Mike Glaicar so getting around the bigger ice surface shouldn't be a problem. But then again, they are not used to this size surface. In the ECAC only three teams stray from the norm (200 X 85). Dartmouth at (200 X 90), Harvard at (204 X 87) and Princeton at a narrow (200 X 80). They will travel to Umass this year and play on a near Olympic size sheet at (200 X 95).

I would obviously love to take a win out of this weekend but I'd take two tightly contested games prepping our boys for a league slate.
