Quinnipiac @ RPI, Saturday, November 15th

Re: Quinnipiac @ RPI, Saturday, November 15th

Well, although we didn't win this one, I think we gave QU a real run for their money. They probably expected an easy two points and we made them work for it. We aren't as well organized as they are and our communication certainly has room to improve. But I am impressed by our effort.

Re: Quinnipiac @ RPI, Saturday, November 15th

i missed the goal being called back-but jenny says that Prapavessis hit the post-then a QU player knocked the goal off the post without being pushed into it. A moment later a goal was scored cleanly by Melanson into the net that had come off. By all interpretations of the rule, this should have been a goal UNLESS the officials blew the whistle when the shot hit the post and the net was knocked off. No question the shot by Prapavessis did NOT go in. No question the QU player took the net off the pegs. No question that Melanson then put the puck in the open net which was off the pegs. Really need an official explanation of why this one did not count. As i understand it, if you knock the net off and immediately a shot goes in as if it was not knocked off, the goal counts. The replay of this should show what the story was.

Should have at least been a delay of game penalty as QU never had possession of the puck.

I saw it the same way.

Impressed? Our PP was putrid. The third period was a total one-sided affair. We must have lost 5 straight face-offs in the defensive zone during one sequence. I am amazed at how when we lose so many of you take satisfaction out of the 'closeness' of the game. We need to play much better to be competitive. We are not even close at this point. I get no satisfaction out of losing. And if Nanne is seriously hurt then it is a worse loss.

I agree relative to the third period, and we all know our PP was awful. However, in comparison to some of recent debacles and the general quality of tonight's opponent, I think we did better than expected which, hopefully, is a sign of our team coming together and maturing. Remember, we've lost a few guys to injuries/illness so the deck was already stacked against us.

Re: Quinnipiac @ RPI, Saturday, November 15th

I remember seeing a player called for delay of game for dislodging the net, though I can't tell you how many years ago it was.

In a game at Princeton, an RPI player skated in under the crossbar and tried to lift the net off its moorings. He didn't get it off with his first effort, so he gave it another heave and it finally came off. It was so obvious I had to laugh. The ref did call a delay of game penalty and it was unquestionably the right call.

This evening, the Quinnipiac player didn't have to give a second heave, but he knocked it off all by himself. If nobody calls a penalty like this any more, it's an open invitation for every team to deliberately dislodge the net the moment they get in trouble in their own zone.

Care to decipher that string of numbers? There's no rule by that number in the current NCAA ice hockey rulebook (http://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/IH16.pdf). For starters, Rule 6 defines the Captains and Alternate Captains for the team.

I'm just copying what one of the posters on RPI-TV's chat said. Try 26.2, page 33, second clause. The shot at the time of displacement hit one of the bars, and is the only one in consideration for goal/no-goal.

That being said, DeepRed also has a point regarding the intentional dislodging of the net.
