Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats @ Cornell Big Red, ECAC Quarterfinal Game 1, 3/9/18
That game was otherworldly. It started out like a typical, albeit good, Cornell game. We blew a couple good chances, got on the board, got tied up, got the lead back. Then the perfect Fiegl drop pass to Malott made it 3-1 and then we darn near got yet a 4th at the end of the first, so we went into intermission with a 3-1 lead, good puck control, great pursuit, but knowing Q would come storming back...
... and then for 20 minutes, everything we touched went in. It was magic -- we were always in the right place, always had the angle, always were there for the rebound, always just perfectly set up for how the bounce came out. We got 6 in the 2nd but we could as easily have had 16. It was that ridiculously easy. It had nothing to do with Q at all, it was some Sophoclean set up where the gods reached down and turned us into lightning.
That's not going to happen again, maybe ever. It was everything coming together perfectly. I really mean when I say we could have easily scored many more goals in the 2nd. We probably whiffed on at least 4 great chances and the Q goalie tandem made fantastic saves on at least 3 others.
This game was as bizarre as the 10-0 Q win in that hard fought QF in Hamden in 2013.
If I were Mike I'd tell them forget it; the moment's over. Tomorrow is not going to be anything like this.
