Quinnipiac Bobcats 2020 Off-Season

Just doing some thinking out loud as this should be the weekend we entertained a Canadian team at the PUC. With all of QU’s NE division opponents being Ivies, and their decision to not start until Jan 1, what are the odds QU gets a few local tune ups before ECAC play starts for them? I thought hockey was eyeing a start similar to BB (late November). I’m not sure if these other programs have made any start decisions but I could potentially see QU facing SHU, UConn, maybe UMass, HC, AIC, Army and possibly the new LIU team. With the scheduling difficulties, and no real chance at hitting the scheduling max, I wonder if they get any local DII/III schools to play/Scrimmage. I can’t imagine ASU, the Alaskas, or Huntsville scheduling is going to be easy. No doubt if it even happens, it will be a strange season.

It looks like ASU solved their scheduling problem, at least somewhat. They signed a deal to play all 7 Big 10 teams 4x each, all at Big 10 Venues. So they get 28 games on their schedule, (ALL AWAY).

Injury question marks will do that. If Smilanic is healthy, he will be excellent for Quinnipiac. I wouldn't be concerned about the draft position if I were a Bobcats fan.

It might actually bode well for QU. Without injury he may have tried to go directly to NHL or tried another route/school. We may actually get him for 2-3 years now depending on his development and how much $ the Panthers throw in front of him after each season. If he’s got skills he’ll find his way to an NHL lineup someday. Just happy he’s a bobcat for now. Now if we can just get them on the Ice.

Devon Toews traded to Colorado for a pair of second round picks.

As an Islander fan that's disappointing. Good luck to him!

Here's what the email said:

In an effort to begin the basketball and hockey season in a safe way, Quinnipiac University has extended all health measures and policies until further notice.

Effective immediately, only essential personnel will be allowed at all home athletic events. No fans, spectators, or family will be allowed to attend.

The athletic department will continue to work with university leadership, public health experts, and government officials to continually evaluate safety conditions and whether spectators may be allowed at a later date.

Those who have renewed their season ticket packages will receive a full refund. The process to initiate refunds will begin this week. Please note, times may vary from when your refund is processed to when it's received. Refunds may not be applied as a donation or credit toward future events. All season ticket packages will remain on hold until next season.

Like many of you, we are disappointed by this announcement. We will miss the energy, passion, and support of our most loyal fans. While spectators will not be in attendance, each home Bobcat game will be streamed live on ESPN3 or ESPN+. For more information, please visit gobobcats.com.

I was expecting a schedule release today, I guess hoping at least but maybe they are finalizing some dates and more games. AIC announced a Home and Home with QU before and after Christmas. I wonder if the Mass mutual center will allow fans? I think Bowling Green has announced they are coming in for 2 in December and SHU is supposedly playing in Hamden on the 24th, I think. So if 11/24 is the first game, thats 18 days (or less) until the season starts! Let's GO BOBCATS

Unfortunately, I think the Governor's restrictions on sports are going to curtail any plans to have games in Hamden. The thing that got me was his restriction on out-of-state travel for games.

And I think it's very telling that everything we know about potential games has come second hand... nothing official from the school at all. Eveything is all too fluid right now.

I thought the ban allowed for college and pro sports to continue. BB starts next week and UConn is playing at Mohegan Sun an a couple weeks.
