Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 off-season thread

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 off-season thread

Can someone please tell me what really happened with Brandon...dumb hip check by someone playing games in practice? Love to know what really happened.
What I heard was that he lost an edge at full song and slid awkwardly into the boards feet first. No contact with anyone just hard skating and bad luck.

QU-AL, you know I am a big fan but the hip-hop music does not go with hockey...at all. I have to admit, I am proud of the season because I thought those Brave Bobcats would have beat Providence and we know UMASS was a good match also.

This team did better than OK after Brandon went down.

Can someone please tell me what really happened with Brandon...dumb hip check by someone playing games in practice? Love to know what really happened. So hope he is recovering well this summer knowing what a positive impact he made and is being recognized for it....also only a few of my friends acknowledged what a great player Brogan is!! He made some very mature, pro moves with regularity and to some of my friends was much better player than recognized for. They wonder why no one drafted him.

The universal feedback from my group of hockey heads is that Rand needs to brung in some size to protect his players from getting hit hard. Understandably he likes the 6' 180 lb skaters that play offensive minded defense and defensive minded offense.

Goalie: Keith is an absolutely great kid, really a great person! But, he lost the job plain & simple and I actually called out earlier this season for being so high on Shorty and down on Keith. QU-AL, you were 1 million % correct! I was wrong.

If Keith does not get good enough to replace Shorty, we are going to have a long season but I think he will rise to the occasion, especially since he has all summer to work on things, like how to be the best goalie in the country.

offense: Odeen is just not Odeen without a rock solid connection back to the Defense and I don't care what his numbers say, I believe he played injured and a bit lost once Brandon went gone. No one in my opinion, including the baby bobcats, picked up the offensive slack.

Way too many one-timers, not crisp passing. no leadership and then Nick Danger (Jermaine) would explode out onto the ice and just rush both directions playing with abandonment for his own health (is he OK from his injury currently?) and purpose unlike others on this team, minute to minute.

I think the baby Bobcats will rise to their Sophomore betterment; Nick Jermaine will play hard until he injuries himself, so I would elevate him to top line until he injures himself . . . kid plays hard and I like his attitude so much! Showed me so much from the previous season where that team including Chase was huge disappointment.

I want UMASS to win Frozen Four.....

Have a good summer to all of you Brave Bobcat fans and hope to read updates, thoughts a summer....

Really good take on the season and the team. The injuries definitely exposed the team’s depth issues. Brandon’s injury changed the entire dynamic of the team. That will continue to be an issue as the program continues to grow. The more elite talent that joins the program, the better the depth will get. The staff definitely gets the most out of their roster, but the margin for error/injury is a lot smaller than with some of the deeper programs. It might get a little worse before it gets better as some kids get exposure and leave early. Even with two frozen fours under it’s belt, I still think this is a program on the rise and in pretty good shape to continue in that direction.

Cukeste staying for his Sr year will be a big help, and hopefully Nick, Alex, Odeen and even KP will all take up the leadership roles that the departed players filled this season. If the 2nd year guys take a good step forward, and they can answer the D question, they should be able to put another solid season together. This year was a big and pleasant surprise. As we walked out of Lynah after the ECAC Quarter finals last year, I wasn’t expecting to be in a game a year later that could have sent us to Buffalo.

IFFFFFFFF, the team can stay relatively healthy, we could have a good stretch of good years coming. Is it October yet?

no UND series this year, but looks like they are still working on it for the future

Bit of an off the wall question here. Attending our first QUMIH Banquet. What’s the dress code?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 off-season thread

Another season officially done with tonight's banquet.

Team awards as follows:

MVP: shared by Andrew Shortridge and Chase Priske

Rookie of the Year: Peter Deliberatore

Coaches Award: Brogan Rafferty

7th Player: Brandon Fortunato

Academic Award: Chase Priske

Captains for next season:

C - Nick Jermain
A - Odeen Tufto
A - Alex Whelan
A - Karlis Cukste

No dates but next season's schedule to include Maine for 2 in Hamden, home and home with UMass, 2 at ASU in November, and the new Connecticut tourney against UConn in the first round (potential matchup with Yale in the championship).

Always a bittersweet evening but very enjoyable. Chase's captains speech was probably the best I've ever heard (and I think he's the best captain to ever wear the blue & gold).

The future is very bright in Hamden.

I hope everyone enjoys their summer.

Is it October yet?

I think Rand said the UMass H/H would be at Thanksgiving weekend. I wonder if they keep the UConn series, we’d be in Hartford this year I think.

Have a great summer.

I am happy for Nick Jermain, was fun to watch his arrival after he returned form injury. I do not recollect him being outstanding 2 seasons ago, but when he returned this past season, he made his presence felt every time he skated. He played a violent, assertive brand of hockey. But he was injured his last game? Any feedback or update on that?

I missed seeing greatness in Brogan Rafferty and was told weeks before he was drafted by a hockey authority specifically about how good Brogan was. The hockey authority is a scout and told me he thought Brogan was the best player on Quinnipiac and cited several reasons. I am learning to watch play over all of the ice, not just follow the puck. This same scout expressed lack of physical size in Quinnipiac and difficulty winning national championship without gaining smart players with size. Not sure how "size" alone does that but i think he was sugsoiing smart payers with size are rare as smart players with speed and better looking for broad base of players with high hockey IQ and try to get 3+ high end lines with good offensive defenseman to keep the pressure on the opponents and wear their few big men down....after watching post season this year, I tend to agree - UMD was so good with the fundamentals, their checking game was non-stop and Bobcats played them well....with a healthy Brandon Fortunato and healthy Odeen (non one says he was hurt but I would say he was slowed by injury) that team goes deep....I expect to see a great season next year, Keith will get it done and this team will get more brazen with the taste of the success they had this year!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2019 off-season thread

looks like Brown released their schedule. If Accurate, we finish this year at home against YALE!

Brown last weekend:
Friday, February 28 at Quinnipiac 7:00 p.m.
Saturday, February 29 at Princeton 7:00 p.m

Yale/Brown away weekend looks like Feb 7/8.

Are you preparing any summer view on the pipeline, and your usual best-in-class analysis on where the ECAC sits and possible projected impact of the new ads coming in to compliment the current team? I miss the season already and last season was inspiring.

Still like to find out what Tyler Welsh said or did to set off Chase Priskie.....!

You mean besides whacking Shortridge like a pinata?

Hi Mark, I recall Anthony Walsh took out Shorty and Tyler Welsh was on the ground with Chase, yes? Where's our Yalie, LTSatch - - he'll light me up fast! Tyler Welsh had do or say something, beyond the normal cheap or vindictive hits...that was an off-the-ranch move. Had to be extremely personal at that point.

Welsh hacked Shorty to start the whole kicking incident. Walsh ran Shorty in the third which caused Shiplo to get DQ'd for throwing haymakers.

I don't think anyone on the ice knew exactly what happened to Welsh at first. Having fallen on his face, I think he was trying to protect himself by getting away. In the heat of the moment Priskie over-reacted.

Whatever it was, it was the wrong response from Chase and he owned it.

Sorry, the only bait I am dealing with right now is on a fish hook.
