Quinnipiac Bobcats 2016-17 - It's 873 miles to Chicago...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2016-17 - It's 873 miles to Chicago...

QPac stream their home games? Will be at Saturday's but can't make the drive down tomorrow...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2016-17 - It's 873 miles to Chicago...

According to ECAC columnists Nate Owen & Michael Leboff, "Goaltender Michael Garteig will once again handle the bulk of the playing time in the crease" That's wonderful news /s

Meanwhile Garteig and Demko were both sent down in Utica....they should both get tons of minutes. I expect Utica to have the best keeper duo in
the AHL. :-)

Game day! Season and home opener. Every journey begins with the first step. I'm interested to see what lines Rand puts together.

Looking forward to some great hockey!

Go Q!

Me too. Sadly, I'll be missing only my 6th game since the Bank opened tonight. Stupid wedding. I will be back at the perch tomorrow night.

Hesitant in my expectations this year. Hoping Landon Smith can finally arrive as that go to guy. Scrimmages are what they are so it's hard to gauge much. But, it sure seemed like four 2nd/3rd lines rolling with serious scoring threats lacking.

I'll be following along from the Madison Beach Club tonight. Go Q, get a win and see y'all tomorrow.

Agree with this. Though they will need more than just Smith to take the leap to go to guy. They need more from guys like MacMaster, Aldworth, Tiefenwerth, Taverner, Davidson and Schutt. If these guys all give more production than they did a year ago then they should be ok. If not then it could be a middle of the pack season.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2016-17 - It's 873 miles to Chicago...

I think we are going to see Priskie, Landon, and Aldzie step up. The three of them looked like they had put in work in the off season. Aldzie finished the one hard take to the net, puck didn't find the net but last year he would lose the puck off his blade. I really don't see this as a year of the Seniors again, I think we are truly sitting on something special with the Juniors and Sophomores. The Seniors are going to play their game, set the pace and tone, but the younger guys are going to be what makes or breaks this season.

I love this early test of Northeastern coming into the Bank. Should be a real gauge as to where we are as a team... it would be nice to get a weekend sweep but I am nervous about who is between the pipes, no matter who is in, this will be our first time seeing this goalie.

I, for one, am excited to watch the physicality of the Martin - Clifton - Davidson line this year

Yup had Truehl pegged as my starter the minute the season ended. My goalie depth chart would go as follows. Truehl, Shortridge, Lawrence

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2016-17 - It's 873 miles to Chicago...

Well, that was sloppy. To be expected from a season-opener.

First of all, I thought Truehl was terrific. That was a great debut from him.

I also really liked the debut by the freshman Rafferty. He was solid defensively and did a great job stepping up into the attack. Aldworth also impressed me -- that kid has some serious high-end speed.

On the other side, I thought Connor Clifton had a really rough game. Turnovers, missed defensive assignments, and another of those prototypical Connor Clifton penalties we've become so accustomed to. If he could limit his penalties he'd be such a better player.

Overall, I'm cautiously optimistic about the club after watching that game. I'm not too sure where the offense is going to come from, but there's reason for optimism. Do I think they're as good as last year? No, I don't. That was the best team in program history. I do think this is a team that has the potential to make the NCAA Tournament, at which point anything can happen.

Go Bobcats!

Best Bobcat on the ice tonight. Made some great saves and can't be faulted for either goal. The first was from a guy wide open on the off side and the second was a wicked redirection in front... both from defensive lapses.

Rafferty and Cukste were very good. Aldworth has a ton of potential but is a bit too selfish for me. If he can find the back of the net I'll be ok with that but until then...

The important thing for all of us to remember is that this is NOT last years team. It's got an entirely different look and feel. Yes, we'll be a little soft offensively but I think the D will solidify and be our strength. It's only week one and there's still work for the staff to do with lines and special teams... both the PP and PK need some tweaking.

It will be interesting to see how they respond tomorrow and what changes Rand might make.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2016-17 - It's 873 miles to Chicago...

Another season begins. Will the Bobcats make it to the windy city?

I don't know if that will happen, but I'm willing to be that Pecknold with break wind behind the bench at least a few times this season!!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2016-17 - It's 873 miles to Chicago...

Truehl was really good tonight. He was basically the reason that we tied this game instead of losing. Really need more offense from somewhere. Not going to win scoring 2 goals a game. Defense is going to be the strength of the team. The PK is ok except for that 1st goal at the end of the PK. Power Play needs alot of work.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2016-17 - It's 873 miles to Chicago...

The boys need to regroup quick for tonight's rematch. Lot's of sloppy play in the 2nd last night... they must remedy that. Also need to take more shots. Tried a few too many fancy passes last night that didn't get through. Not much they can do before tonight, but the PP really needs work. It looked like what we saw last night wasn't even close to a final product. Rand will tweak the units for sure and they'll figure it out. I'm thinking Truehl goes again. He looked extremely confident and agile between the pipes. He picked up his D a few times last night.

Still way too early to panic... they'll get it all figured out and be just fine.

Go Q!

I don't even think there's reason to panic, much less whether it's too early to do so or not. There's no reason to panic. I think we saw last night that this is a good team. A little raw, and a little sloppy, but all the ingredients are there for a good team. How good they can be is something we'll find out in a few months.

I whole heartedly agree... it's just that I heard lots of comments at the game last night and get a certain vibe from posts here. The most prevalent comment seemed to be "they looked tired and gassed". Maybe... but Coach B will whip them into shape in short order. What he does with this team is phenomenal.

Let's face it. We've been spoiled the past couple of seasons. Anything less than a win is unacceptable it seems. Can we have another single-digit losses season? Sure. Will we? Only time will tell.

Hopefully in a few weeks... ;)

This IS a good team. The returning nucleus is battle tested and knows the winning culture. That will permeate the entire team. I think that once the lines settle in and the boys start to gel we'll see what they're made of. There's as much skill and potential this season as there was last season. The only difference is we're missing those "headline" names. Those who know me know that I'd prefer they fly under the radar than to have that big target on their backs.
