Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - Another journey begins...

Jack,

Thank you.
It's all Jack's fault. He obviously tired them out at UNE Monday. ;)

I left work early to watch the game at home with my camo jersey... Not saying it was good luck but I think it might have helped!
I'm pretty sure Larson was at the game last night wearing his camo. He also wore it for the Princeton game at the Bank. While I'm not convinced the camo curse is broken, it may have had a positive affect. For now, my camo will stay safely in the closet... I ain't taking any chances!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - Another journey begins...

And so it begins...

Nothing but league play left. There are no pushover's in the ECAC. Each game will need to be well played and hard fought, starting with tonight. Garteig needs to be solid, D needs to help him in front, O needs to keep up the pressure and get pucks to the net. Ugly goals look the same as pretty ones in the boxscore.

One shift. One period. One game.

Go Q!

To which ever one of you who was whipping and NayNaying on dance cam:

That's the type of SH¡T we need to see!!! Straight getting it!!

Another pathetic performance until the end. Rand needs to drill them big time in practice this week.

I disagree. I thought they played pretty well throughout. a couple of defensive issues to clean up, but they played hard. 5 pipes and 46 saves from Kasdorf could have easily resulted in a few more goals.

Hardly pathetic. They were all over RPI... attempted shots were 63-23 after 2. Four posts and a crossbar as well. Just couldn't get past Kasdorf. I thought they skated hard all game.

Garteig was good but had some trouble with rebounds (and has over the past couple of games). Offense was buzzing most of the game. Some really good looks at the twine but thwarted by a good goaltending performance.

Sure, it would have been nice to win but the tie is ok... gives them something to work on. I don't think anyone can complain about 19-1-5.

Pathetic performance? What game were you watching? Quinnipiac outplayed RPI in all aspects of the game except where it counts, the scoreboard. Out played, out chanced, out shot (48-26), out clanged (one post, four crossbars) RPI. They had difficulty putting the puck in the net, but not from lack of effort. That's hockey! It happens! Snakebit? Maybe a little. Did you notice the puck spinning and not settling down on St. Denis breakaway in OT? Plus Kasdorf was good. And neither one of RPI's goals were of highlight caliber. In fact the second one was as fluky as they get. I might agree with you if you were referring to the Maine game, but not tonight. Far from pathetic.

Besides, we all know Maine is that good now don't we! ;)

I'm pretty sure that first RPI goal came after an offside zone entry. If you're skating backwards bringing it in, the ref can make a judgment call to allow it if in "full control" of the puck. The puck went into the corner as contact was made at the blue line when he was moonwalkin' it in.

I'm not sure they were even going to review it, but I was screaming myself hoarse to try to get them to take a look. Guess I shouldn't have been too surprised with the results with a St Lawrence-lead crew.

Apparently they can't review offsides in a non-TV game.

To QUAum2004: I wasn't able to watch the game tonight, but Quinnipiac outshot RPI 48-26. You don't throw nearly 50 shots on net while playing horribly. Hockey's stupid, sometimes.

Not sure it's a matter of TV, as even with the camera angles both of us have with our "coverage", they didn't call it for one of our games earlier in the year. Since the league mandates video review with a very specific angle and clock embed, something tells me that is all they are permitted to use in the course of reviewing the play.

I heard Rand say something to that effect in the post-game presser. They are allowed to review for offside calls, but I think what he was saying is that there would be more cameras in the building with a better angle to see the play if shooting for TV. However, if what FlagDude said is true about only certain angles being allowed in video reviews (presumably an ECAC choice), they may not have been permitted to use the "extra" footage even if there were more cameras in the building.

In any event, we salvaged a tie and got a point instead of letting the second place team gain ground, so not a terrible outcome. Anas clutch once again.

My understanding is that anything around the net can only be viewed from the overhead camera which is what makes the high sticking calls so difficult. The offsides review can come from any available source as far as I know. The "no TV" thing I don't buy though because the feed on the scoreboard (and the internet) had replays all night. Perhaps they just didn't have a camera on the spot of the infraction? Both goal reviews last night seemed to take an exceptionally long time.

To anyone who thinks last night was a bad game, all I can say is you've been spoiled thus far this season. Sure, I wanted a win as bad as anyone... but they played hard and had plenty of chances. It was far from a stinker and I still think the fact that they can stay composed and battle back from 2-goal deficits speaks volumes about the heart and character of this team. I'm perfectly content with our 19-1-5 record, 1st place in the league, and 1st in the PWR.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - Another journey begins...

If Quinnipiac was still #4 or even #2 in the country these ties wouldn't have been as disappointing. But because they are now the #1 team in the country I believe the ties hurt a little more. The boys have been fighting hard to get respect from the western teams. To show up in the first two games at #1 and have their efforts negated by two ties stings. But the RPI game was played 100% better than the Maine game. Kasdorf is absolutely a great goalie and he showed that last night. Aldworth played really well these two games, Sammy Bobcat still doing the thing he does, the first line has been sensational, Gartieg still staying strong... League play is going to be tough the rest of the way.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - Another journey begins...

To be honest, if they're worried about their #1 poll ranking then they deserve the ties. It's nice and all but means absolutely nothing. Give me the pairwise all day, every day.

They salvaged 2 points from what could (should?) have been nothing. Keep in mind that they're still on break as well. Once they get back to a normal rhythm they should be ok. They're miles above where any of us thought they would be at this point. Let's try to enjoy the ride.

I don't remember all the angles you guys have, but since all "panning" cameras follow the puck, at least one would have to have the eye on the line. And since they usually use multiple angles for replays, it had to be recorded somewhere. That's why I offered the hypothesis that I did.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - Another journey begins...

I was actually pretty impressed with Quinnipiac's effort last night. Couldn't get the puck into the net but the ice was severely tilted especially early in the game.

A couple other observations from recent play
- this team knowing how to fight back from multiple goal deficits will be huge in the post season. Love Rand's aggressiveness pulling Garteig so early on the PP the last two games.
- if this run of ties is our annual swoon, can't complain about that.
- Garteig is great. Though I can't be the only one who is noticing that he (and the team as a whole) seem to really be susceptible to multiple goal out bursts. Seems like a lot of goals against or followed by another. Haven't seen many instances where we've given up an early goal and then give up another one 50 minutes later.
- it's time to take home an ECAC post season title

Love this team this year.

Absolutely! No panic, no fear.

I admit I'm not a fan of doing it so early but that's why Rand makes the big bucks.

Definitely not.

Garteig is great.
As good as Bud? ;) (you knew that was coming)

One of 2 missing pieces of bling.

Love this team this year.
Me to. ;)

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - Another journey begins...

Been too busy with work the last few weeks to hop on here. But have no fear ... I'm back! That is until I take another 6 weeks off. I know MEUSA missed me on here.

Seems like everything has been well covered. All I wanted to say is that the Maine game on Tuesday really had me worried. When they went up 1-0 early I figured they would steam roll through the rest of the game and maybe they thought the same thing which is probably where the problem came into play. It was strange though in the third because I did think that they could still come back if they could just sustain some pressure. Some questionable calls down the stretch gave QU a chance and they really had a few opportunities in OT.

It was such a different vibe at Alfond. I used to go up there to see no.1 Maine play, and to see no.1 QU there was both amazing and strange. The place was half empty and it was dead quiet a number of times in the third. I mean Maine hasn't done anything this year and here they are up 2 on the no.1 team in the country and the atmosphere was dead. It's just a different vibe up there.

I did have my camo jersey on but I think I'll break out the Wong jersey the next time I get to a game - I can't take seeing another tie. Maine game was also the first time I have been to the game and been one of only 2 people there cheering on a team. I saw one other QU jersey so maybe there were more people but for jerseys it was me and former QU broadcasting great Gregg Glynn.

Shocked to see Kotsy making the trip to Maine. Probably just wanted to be closer to Canada.
