Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 Post Season - The view from the top...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 Post Season - The view from the top...

Rand said on this interview that the arena will be getting a new scoreboard next year and they will have the best scoreboard in college hockey.

That's what earning the 2014 Women's Frozen Four will do for you. From what I have heard, there will be a new jumbotron above the ice, with two new scoreboards above the student section, one on each bathroom in that endzone.

I have also heard that the same changes will be made to the basketball side of the Bank also. I don't have complete 100% confirmation on that, but that is the word around town for what it's worth.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 Post Season - The view from the top...

I heard that Rand is headed to BU, any truth to the rumour? ;);):p

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 Post Season - The view from the top...

Also, for what it's worth, here is a video Quinnipiac posted back in 2011 with a demo of what new scoreboards could potentially look like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRDr_FdpP3o

While I do not believe that the first video board shown is what the school is going to do, consider myself smitten with the demo jumbotron in that video.

Also, it would be great to have QU enter an agreement with Coke products instead of Pepsi, but I will take new scoreboards as a compromise. :D

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 Post Season - The view from the top...

Just a local fan here who attends the games. Can QU take this any more over the top? It is already bordering on cartoonish sycophanthy! The upgrades to the scoreboard and video will be great! The other crap, ala thundersticks are annoying and tacky. Get back to the game, please.

The word from my sister's friend's brother's uncle is that there is a 67% chance that he'll be headin' to BU. Kevin Bui and Sami Liimatainen to take the reigns at QU.

I think I can speak for everyone in this thread when I say we are tired of the thundersticks as well. With that said, what other crap are you referring to? For a program like Quinnipiac that has never experienced this amount of regular season success, can you really blame the athletics department and the university as a whole for trying to take advantage of it?

I've been in love with Harvard's HD scoreboard since I first saw it a couple of years ago. Anything bigger/better than that would be awesome!

Mostly the thundersticks, I am not a fan of pro style theatrics at college games either, but I can live with that. Good luck against Cornell.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 Post Season - The view from the top...

Still #1 in the USCHO poll. The mystery is we picked up 3 1st place votes and Minny lost 1 after their sweep this weekend. UML had 2 votes last week, clinched the Hockey East crown this weekend and lost both votes. I was expecting to stay in 1st but lose at least a few votes. Strange bunch those pollsters are.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 Post Season - The view from the top...

Quinnipiac University men's hockey: Still the No. 1 team in the country.

... I just love typing that out.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were something similar to what we have in Troy, especially if Daktronics is behind it. Not sure if you've been there in the past 3 years.

Still haven't been to Troy... :(

I can say that whatever they do, it won't be a half-arsed job. They'll go all out and won't settle for anything but the best I'm sure.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 Post Season - The view from the top...

Completely valid point, which segues nicely into a conversation about another NCAA contender, Quinnipiac. We (at least, I) have discussed the Bobcats’ bona fides ad nauseum this season, but one thing that many fail to realize is that QU’s non-conference schedule — criticize it all you like — is such because the program does not feel like it should have to play a huge chunk of its inter-league games away from its sparkling new facility in Hamden.

And who can blame them? It’s a great, school-owned, on-campus venue, and every home game earns the athletics department a decent income from the gate. That said — it’s been asked before, it’ll be asked again — how much has Quinnipiac handicapped itself on the national stage (both in the polls and ultimately in the tourney) by playing so many lower-profile teams at home, rather than taking an “any time, anywhere” approach to playing the big boys?

This is valid to a degree but Quinnipiac is willing to play big time programs on the road if they return the favor and come to Hamden. St Cloud State, UNO, Ohio State are 3 that have been willing to do a home and home with us. UMass also has done a home and home as well. I'd hope that we can get Maine on a return trip next year. Rumors also have them playing an icebreaker kickoff tournament in Hamden with BC, Penn State and Niagara as participants. The key is really to start getting the likes of BC, BU & UNH to do home and homes with us.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 Post Season - The view from the top...

Thx to whoever will be pioneering the new scoreboards and whatnot ... count me in as among the most excited for the debut of the Quinnipiac Kiss Cam. Because tonsil hockey is better than ice hockey AMIRITE?!?!

Agreed, also, with the points that Quinnipiac give it a good effort in the nonconference. We should not be rollovers to take automatic road trips without reciprocation. The No. 1 team in the country calls the shots. It should be natural that some of these traditional Hockey East powers want to play a little puck with the Bobcats, especially now that we've proven the ability to help their strengths of schedule.

Can't wait for this weekend. Go Bobcats!

Unless you guys start televising every game, I doubt you will get the Kiss Cam. Plus, every other shot will probably be refs or visiting players.

Please, do the entire league a favor and knock Cornell out this weekend. It's about time they sit at home and pout.
