Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Clawing our way to Albany

Again, I agree with you. The big, loud and rowdy student section is a great intimidation factor, but that's just not an option for us now with them on break.

We beat both Princeton and UMass during the Thanksgiving break. There were no, or very few, students but the regular crowds were rather good, especially for a holiday weekend. That's what I'm hoping for this weekend and next.

I realize the Bank won't be quite as loud but I can promise you wonger and I will do our best to make up for it! :D

Yo Kat-Man-Du, How's 2010 been treating you so far? I see your team has another tough one tonight. Them RPIs am a smart bunch. I mean they gotta be smarter than those tree stumps enrolled at Q-Tip, er, Q-Pac. :)

Many Denver fans root for RPI as Seth Appert was an integral part of the Pioneers' NCAA title teams just a few seasons ago. He was instrumental in recruiting some top flight goalies to Denver. Good luck against the Engineers.

Meanwhile, here in Denver the Pioneers need to figure out a way to play much better hockey against the Seawolves tonight. When DU visited Alaska earlier in the season--without Marc Cheverie in goal because of an injury--goalie Adam Murray, an Anchorage native, played decently the first night as DU won 3-2, but then sieved the second night as Alaska won 7-3.

I don't know if Murray will get a start this weeknd, but suspect he might. And again, that's complete speculation on my part.

Have a good weekend and I'm sure I'll run into you at some point on the boards this weekend. Good luck against Union tomorrow.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Clawing our way to Albany

Listened to the end of the game and it sounded like they came out strong, horrible 2nd period then downhill from there.

Houston we have a problem

I'll be in attendance tomorrow, maybe i can bring the team some good luck...i have to think positively right?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Clawing our way to Albany

I'd like to see Cadieux get the start tomorrow. Hartz looked pretty bad tonight especially on the second goal that went through his legs while he stood looking around lost.

The fourth line was also atrocious. They have played hard for the past few games but tonight Heichman, Oakes and Arnt were just awful and couldn't clear the zone to save their life.

I am very happy with Goodman's play. He is a much needed strong bodied presence and has good size that will help the team for a long time. He just needs to find his niche...playing alongside JMB and Wong should help him find it quick.

In the Bobcats defense York played stellar in net for the Engineers and no save was bigger than when he stoned Wonger on a one on none late. Zurvy's last two goals have been simply from hard work and we need to see more of that from the rest of the guys. Where is Lampe, JMB, Atkinson, Holt?

Ugh.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Clawing our way to Albany

i'd like to see Cadieux get the start tomorrow too but i have a feeling he will start Clarke.

I thought that Hartz looked bad against AIC too

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Clawing our way to Albany

I'm not going to make excuses because we were outplayed most of tonight. However, if I never see Chip MacDonald again it will be too soon. He's the most inconsistent ref I've seen. Bad calls both ways tonight.

As for our beloved Bobcats, well... moments of brilliance followed by long stretches of terrible hockey. Maybe the start of the season was a fluke... maybe we're seeing what we were supposed to be all along. Whatever it is the boys need to dig deep and try to turn this around and fast. There's still time and I still think they have what it takes.

I'm too stunned to give a more thorough recap... I just hope to see a different Bobcat team tomorrow. We need to salvage something out of this weekend.

I wasn't there but when I looked at the box score and saw you out shot a team 37 to 15 with RPI only getting 5 shots in each of three periods it's pretty hard to figure out how you lost.

Perhaps I'll see you and All Night Wong tomorrow night. If I go I'll look for you in your usual spot.

Better luck tomorrow night against Union.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Clawing our way to Albany

Now this stat is a little tainted because of how well the season started but we are 12-1-1 when scoring first and 1-5 when not scoring first. This was no more telling than last night when the boys came out and played hard and fast in the first, putting a barrage of shots on York and not yielding any results. So when RPI scored first our boys became dead and deflated and that abysmal second period was the result.

For confidence sake, we NEED to score first tonight and hopefully that stat will hold true.

Not making a prediction and just praying for a win. See ya up there tonight. Go Q!

Went over to last nights game. You guys have a nice rink.Reminds me of Thompson rink @ Dartmouth. However, Ther person who designed the parking lot should be forced to park there for every event and stay to the end.UGGH. I bet it was the same guy who designed the parking for the nacscar lot in New Hampshire. The lower level/upper level exit stategy sucks.

Yeah the key is to get to the game early and choose an ideal spot. I stayed til the game's last second and exited quite smoothly.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Clawing our way to Albany

Been a while since I piped in so I have a few comments..

1) home ice - students vs. no students - being home makes a huge difference as opposed to being away. the whole component of traveling, not being in your comfort zone, definitely plays a huge role. bottomline, traveling just sucks. (i travel with another QU team and I take any opportunity I can to pass the ticket to another manager because it's annoying). So granted, having the student section present amplifies the effect of being home, just the fact of having home games make a big difference, trust me.

2) i thought hartzell was terrible last night. I was upset to see him stay in the entire second period, but thankful that he at least didn't come out in the third.

3) special teams definitely killed us last night

4) wonger, you're on to something with the scoring first. I noticed that myself earlier in the year, and it makes sense. You score first, feel enthusiastic and just keep the fire going - as this team proved it was able to.

5) I think we've started to see some selfish play and then a lack of it at other times. Holt is a puck-hog. He definitely muscles up and down the ice and he's been a great player for us, but at times he won't pass when he really needs to. Mooks hasn't been selfish enough I think. He's been a little reserved I think, same with Zurvy. Sometimes when you have the chance, you jsut need to go for it. Heich has also been trying a bit too hard and a little too selfish I think as well. This ties into the point above. When we get down a goal, the boys freak out and their game breaks down because they enter the mentality "we need a goal, we need a goal, we need a goal" and they rush. control the puck, run a few plays, and get that goal. but you don't need to do it in the next 30 seconds...

6) Absolutely TERRIBLE reffing last night. Perhaps as bad as at the brown game in the beginning of december. Not to mention RPI wasn't playing very clean either. I was about ready to go down on the ice and throw a few swings myself. Grrr.... still a little riled about that. Even Harvard wasn't that bad in my opinion.

I think that sums up my thoughts.
We need to score first tongith and see where it goes from there.
Let's go bobcats!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Clawing our way to Albany

Another tough loss. I will say they played well for the whole game which was nice to see. Scoring first did seem to energize them but then they couldn't find the back of the net after that. Another couple of missed opportunities on open nets probably was the difference. If they could have gotten one or two of them to go... who knows.

The offense has gone to sleep and needs to wake up. While they didn't appear to press as hard tonight, they still showed signs of being too tense. No real flow on the attack for the second night in a row.

Clarke played well except for the game winner. He made some nice saves and even got some great D support a couple of times when I thought for sure Union was going to bury one.

Officiating wasn't a factor tonight and I thought the game was well called. The only call I didn't agree with was Hansens's roughing at the end of the 2nd. I thought that Union should have gotten one there as well.

Four non-conference games ahead against a couple of formidable opponents. SCSU is going to be a tough series and Niagara has always been a thorn in our side.

Oh well... I'm a little worried but not ready to throw in the towel.

I think I have to disagree. At times the offense played very well, despite not being able to get shots on or capitalize on shots. Yes, at times they were tense and too eager to score a goal, but they were very much improved from last night in my opinion.

I also want to say that tonight DalHuisen stepped up and finally played the way I think most of us were expecting him to play all season long. He fought hard all night, getting a stick on a lot of pucks. He always seemed well in control of the puck when he had it and made some great passes. I wasn't happy with his interference call, but I guess he deserved it there... But overall he played very well tonight I think.

I think we're all taking the losses too hard here. Yes, they're not good and are quite a disheartening downturn midway through the season, but win or lose we are Bobcats fans and I'm hoping everyone is remembering that. It's not like the boys are going out there and throwing their sticks down and saying "eh, i don't want to play tonight" (alright, maybe they did that at points last night :p ) but they are trying and just it's not working for them like it did before.

Everyone loves a winning team, but true fans are there during the rough patches as well :)

I still believe this is one of the best teams we've had on the ice and I'm not giving up on them anytime soon.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Clawing our way to Albany

I love this team like no other but this is really bad.

I wonder if something is going on behind the scenes that is disrupting the team chemistry.

Does anyone know the last time we lost 6 conference games in a row?

Hoping the turn it around next weekend...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Clawing our way to Albany

Good game tonight, guys. I hope Quinny works out their problems soon. I was so excited to see them doing well at the beginning of the season and now they have a major rough patch.

As I said in the game thread though, you have to still look at the bright side. Because of their amazing start, you are only one point behind first place in the league.

Good luck the rest of the way.
