Question of the Day

Today's question:

How long do flies normally live? I have one in my condo that I think got in when I opened my balcony on Saturday for, like, 8 seconds. It's driving me crazy today. Trying to get it to a place where I can either open my front door and let it loose in the hallway, or my balcony so it can be free outside. Except that it's really cold outside today. It hasn't landed anywhere safe for me to try and kill it.

Do you have a cat?

No, no pets. I need to also get new window screens because the two that I have are a little torn so I know that's how they get in during the warmer months. They seem to find their way out, though. However, since it's cold, the windows remain closed. I'll get it eventually. I'm just trying to do work today and it keeps hitting the window in front of me.

Light a candle. Problem solves itself.

Today's question:

What's the difference between a nutritionist and a dietician?

Probably about four years of college, a degree and a license, is my guess. I think anyone can call themselves a "nutritionist." I know a girl who worked in my local grocery store who is a "nutritionist" and I don't think she has any education beyond high school.

A friend of mine got a PhD in nutrition from KState. I read her dissertation and the math was more difficult than most advanced physics.

They're the real sh-t. It's not an MRS degree.

I'm with Kepler - I think you have it backwards. A dietician just provides consulting advice on your diet. A nutritionist is a no-kidding scientist who studies biological metabolic processes.

Yeah, it's possible. It wouldn't be the first time I'd have something like that garbled in my mind. But like I said, I thought the girl I knew was claiming to be a nutritionist, and I'm pretty sure she had no degree whatsoever.

There are a lot of personal service jobs (massage therapist, etc) where in the "certified" or "licensed" printed on the card means a lot more than some people realize. My wife is a CMT but she has gotten calls from frustrated and lonely tourists who didn't know the difference.

I can call myself a pin up girl; it don't make my legs any better.

As a bit of a follow up to my dietician vs. nutritionist question - here is today's question"

What are good/interesting/tasty/simple things to eat to lower cholesterol? And how long would you have to eat them to notice a difference in your cholesterol numbers?

Oats. A few months maybe. Haven’t had to lower mine, but they’re often cited as cholesterol lowering. Just... watch what you put in them. Like salads, they can go from good to really bad quickly.

Oatmeal is proven to work for me. It can be really easy- make instant old fashioned oats. I add the following-
collagen powder - really optional but extra protein
ground flax seed
chia seeds
almond butter - about a tsp
half cup of raspberries

Yeah, I’ve been eating oatmeal, not as much so I’m go to start eating more. I just put some dark brown sugar in it. I started eating some scrambled egg whites with spinach with the oatmeal. I also bought some hummus for the first time, eating it with carrots. And had salmon the other night with enough for a second meal.

Are contributions to political campaigns considered tax deductible donations? I’m pulling all my tax stuff together.
