Question about a printer problem

I have a HP officejet 6000 wireless printer. It wasn’t printing so I put in a new ink cartridge. It’s not printing in black. I tried an excel spreadsheet, an email, a PDF and a word document. I cleaned the heads. It’s printing yellow and blue lines No black . I reinstalled the printer. I tried unplugging it. Nothing helps

Any suggestions?

Re: Question about a printer problem

Heads might be bad. If you just did the built in cleaning cycle it might not work, especially if you don’t use it often.

You might be able to get some cleaning solvent (is it still methanol?) and do it yourself with a qtip. But some assembly may be required.

You can buy a new printer for the cost of ink cartridges

Which is embarrassing. And true for the last twenty years. Had a roommate in college who did just that, and went through three printers in one semester because they were cheaper than buying ink for them.

Buying a new printer is now on my Christmas list. Ok, experts, what should I buy? I don’t print a lot....recipes, directions etc. almost always just using black ink...hardly ever use color except when printing my cruise luggage tags. Suggestions?

Re: Question about a printer problem

Am I a freak for not having had a printer at home in about 10 years? I need to print so infrequently that using my local library or, if an emergency, my office printer has been more than sufficient. Even when I was out of work and would fairly regularly print resumes, the library met all my needs.

Why even spend the money? How much do you need to print? Why can't you use your smartphone?

edit: I'll add that a big part of my job is working on printers at doctors' offices, so I may be more averse to them than a normal person.

It's a cheap, monochromatic laser printer. The head won't gunk up the way an ink jet printer head will, so you're less likely to have the "ink go bad" (helps that there's no actual ink in a laser printer - it uses toner).

Re: Question about a printer problem

Lookout for brother. They were just sued (this year?) for basically bricking toner cartridges before they were empty.

Re: Question about a printer problem

I had no idea about that. Other companies make similarly priced laser printers, so just plug 'n' play my recommendation with another brand.

Re: Question about a printer problem

You're gonna need some ball bearings and some anti-freeze, preferably Prestone. No, make that Quaker State.
