Re: Pyeongchang Spoilers: Tomorrow's Competitions, TODAY!

Well, we learned the Russians have better European professionals. It's sad that the world championships will have deeper talent pools than the Olympics this year. Not sure who Germany will bring or if they'll have the same coach for that but I'm excited to see how they and the Koreans fare in Denmark.

+1. It was interesting for us to note that it *seemed* the women's game was played at a higher level than the mens. It was pretty clear that the mens were not the best players in the world. At all. When they started quoting ages on the Canadian and US team, they were close to an over 40 beer league. It turned out to be one sport that it wasn't that awesome to watch. Which reflected quite accurately with the number of posts here.

Hopefully, the NHL will realize how much it means to THEM to demonstrate how high of play they have here in North America, and they will let them play. Same for the players association. And for NBC as well.

Re: Pyeongchang Spoilers: Tomorrow's Competitions, TODAY!

Some "credit" to NBC- quite a few months ago, they changed Universal to the Olympic channel. And started to constantly show current events for Olympic sports that don't get coverage outside of the Olympics.

So one could see the build up in skiing as well as the sliding sports. And the sliding sports were really cool to watch for someone who had done motorsports, especially autocrossing. All of the sliders are just like autocrossing- by yourself, and taking the right line is critical to a good run.

Anyway, seeing all of that for a few months before this Olympics helped a lot (especially in the face of the rather poor mens hockey play, overall).

Re: Pyeongchang Spoilers: Tomorrow's Competitions, TODAY!

I gave my opinion on how they should've picked the men's Team USA here. Couldn't have been much worse.

Re: Pyeongchang Spoilers: Tomorrow's Competitions, TODAY!

Since the Russians sang their anthem, which was explicitly banned by the IOC, could their gold medals be taken away?

Re: Pyeongchang Spoilers: Tomorrow's Competitions, TODAY!

But I don't blame them. They are Russians.

I'm sure your reaction to patriotic Americans bravely singing their anthem in the face of international oppression would be the same. :p

But yeah, that Russian gold really pales besides the American men's... um...

VVP is sending a silver samovar to Bettman.

Re: Pyeongchang Spoilers: Tomorrow's Competitions, TODAY!

13 of the 36 U.S. athletes involved in winning gold medals are from Minnesota

13 of 24 Minnesotans who went to the Olympics have won gold medals

Suck it Wisconsin!

Re: Pyeongchang Spoilers: Tomorrow's Competitions, TODAY!

Biggest win for the Russians since the 2016 election?

Lol

I don't get the fascination/inferiority complex that so many of you (posters) display.

It's not reciprocated.

It's fine... have at it... I guess I just don't understand why we're always on your mind.

Back to it though.

I found it funny after the NYT article this week about how team USA was basicslly team Minnesota. A bunch of butt hurt WI people started whining about how the women’s hockey final had 9 badgers blah blah and so WI was the real star. Sadly many Wisconsin folks seem to not realize that many of the badger players are from...wait for it...Canada!
