Providence Friars - 2019-2020 Rebuilding The Friars for Another NCAA

Re: Providence Friars - 2019-2020 Rebuilding The Friars for Another NCAA

Curious over the 2010s decade.... has there been any player who transferred out who amounted to much? Just looking at the last few years rosters and players that left, Chase Zieky seems like he did alright but on a bottom 1/3 team for the most part. Anyone else or nah?

Rufo had 19 points in his grad transfer year at UMass

I was thinking more like players with remaining eligibility - like Ruggiero - but that's a good mention. I kinda forgot about Rufo being on the Friars.

Baum played 32 games this season for AIC with two goals and five assists. He played 26 in 2018-2019 with a goal and three assists while ONLY being eligible for the second half of the year.

Matthew Tugnutt is coming to PC as a grad student. He had good numbers at SHU. I liked his Dad when I was younger even though he played for the enemy every time. :)

Tugnutt is probably a third liner in Hockey East at best. A fine player but isn't going to light up the scoreboard in 2020-2021.

Third line is fine. It's rare that you get a graduate student who is going to set the world on fire. Mike Lackey was a steal and you don't get that fortunate that often.

Fact...saw Tugnutt play a few games for Sacred Heart. Good solid player for them just don't see him breaking the top 6.

Two significant losses with Dugan (early) and Lackey (grad, so that's inevitable). The other seniors should be easy to replace. With Mazura signing to play in the USHL next season that moves him to the following year's class which looks loaded in its current form. Who all transferred out during the offseasons - Rule, Needham? Harding? I know 2 of 3 did but thinking Needham did too. Outside of Ford, Moynihan and Crozier the rest of the freshman class didn't have much impact.

From the looks of it there are four incoming defensemen: Alami, Sundquist, Prokop and Ruikka. Monds, Poisson, Yoder, Young and Tugnutt as the incoming forwards (Tugnutt a grad transfer) look more promising as a group than last year's forwards.

In goal is interesting, with Stauber eligible to play in January, Kucharski transferring out, Mollot-Hill back in, and Martinsson likely the starter. Scannell is still there. I like this roster going into next season. I think with the focus taken off Dugan it should allow for things to open up a bit offensively. Sure, they'll miss his playmaking abilities but due to him being targeted he also took some unnecessary penalties. It was a fun run having Dugan play here and a treat to watch but can't keep them forever. If things stay the same with player commits, in 2022 PC will have 3 pairs of brothers on the team (Berard, Kramer and Schimek).

Dugan was inevitable too due to his age—we all knew he was 2 and done
Rule is gone. Harding and Kucharski in portal. Mollott-Hill changed mind
Ruikkla only D arriving. Monds looks headed to USHL for year. 5 forwards gone 5 in

Think better rounded lines too. You have 3 now soph defensemen

Think you have goal pretty much right though Martinsson not the sole guy in career so both Mollott Hill and in particular Stauber should get at least a few games unless they flat out wrestle job from him

Interesting about brother and in 2 cases like with Koopman one brother figures to be regular other depth. Obviously Brady will be seen as a big addition.

I did notice where Monds was a USHL draft pick but unsure he was signing for the year. Must've missed about Alami, Sundquist and Prokop not coming in next season. I'm sure somewhere they'll pick up players for the season. Figured something was going on with Mazura when he got dealt from Omaha to Chicago. That Chicago team is run so well year after year it seems.

You missed Berard on your incoming forwards. His younger brother just was named to the USNTP U-17 squad for next year.

Got to think the top two lines is going to be some mix of Ford, Thompson, Printz and Moynihan. The freshmen are going to have to fit in around them.

The goalie position seems it is Martinnson's to lose in the fall. If he falters, he will be replaced by Stauber who has minimal NCAA experience.

All this might not matter as we are not sure there will be a season yet.

Has Thompson confirmed he is not signing with NJD?

No but haven’t seen any talk of him signing. I don’t get the decision to sign now anyways by Dugan. I would have made PC honor my scholarship until the NHL was back at least having practices before signing since there is still a possibility there is no NHL/AHL/College season in the fall.

Certainly do not know all the factors leading to Dugan’s signing, but your argument for not signing at this time makes sense.

PK got his tickets renewed for next season. Will miss the printed booklets, but save $25 on it. Probably put it towards a haircut or something.
