Re: Providence College...the battle goes on...Boston twice in 15

I'm strongly considering going out there for the PC games--what airport did you fly in to?

flew boston-minn with connection to Grand Forks (Delta)
Went outside to get cab but had to go back in terminal and call cab

Mrs Jon and I will dance festively.
It sounds like he didnt have any other viable options than go back to PC for his junior year. I guess he could of signed with Quebec in the QMJHL but that is a huge step down from Hockey East. Lets face it the second half of this season he basically played himself out of a contract.

I should let Hokey gives you the facts but basically after the first few games back, which was the same issue we had with Goepfert a decade ago, he was solid. Last 13 games he let in 26 goals never more than 3 in a game and this included 5 playoff games

Exactly Cav just like Goepfert went thru but Gillies recovered quicker and now will show the rest of HE who the Best Goal tender is.....and I couldn't be happier !!!!

65/68 saves, 964 save % 1.5 ga in ncaa regional finals and all against two of the top offensive teams in the country, Hockey East defensive player of the week.

yea, he collapsed

He is coming back because he rightly feels pc has a chsnce to take the next step. There isnt a coach outside of pc who is happy about the announcement.

If he wantef to leave and sign he would have at the max contract level.
great news for the program

Well I am happy Mr. Gillies is coming back. Good decision if you ask me.

Re: Providence College...the battle goes on...Boston twice in 15

It is a great decision for PC fans but it will be terrible if he suffers a major injury and the way these teams have been crashing the net, there will be more in 2014-2015

“@OTBPuckWatch: 99 F Matt Allen (Selects Academy) commits to Providence. Potentially a very high-end forward for the Friars down the line.”

That makes me feel old with him being a 99

Doesn't it.

Knew the kid was a local player, but he is so young he never even played a year or 2 at the Catholic high schools before jumping to prep/juniors. Assuming he sticks with the Selects program another year he would play for Devin Rask

Even worse...a Devin Rask reference.,.now I feel like one of those old cronies, I remember when he played!

Gillies is returning and Hellybuyck is leaving. No offense to UML fans, but that's great news for the rest of us. Now to get Gaudreau to leave early... ;)

Brian Burke will do whats best for Brian Burke. If he thought Gilles was mature/good enough now to help the big club or his AHL club then he would of signed him. The same goes for Gaudreau.

bad news for you puckster, the non signing was Gillies decision. he didn't drive around in his pick up truck for 3 or 4 hours deciding how to answer Burke not offering

Nice thought though

Hmmmm, I think I will drive around for 5 or 6 hrs deciding to say, "oh, that sucks", or "I will show you"!!

Seriously

I have to agree, if Jon really looked at the entire years performance honestly he had to see he was not ready for the pro schedule and the quality of play from all the lines.....this decision will allow for growth both physically and mentally and give him some fun that a young man needs while maturing..........It also makes me very happy !!!!! :D

I'm glad Jon is going to stay with us and continue posting on these boards. However I can't imagine all that time driving around Roslindale. Now about Gillies decision, it too is cause for celebrating.
