Providence College on the road to Tampa

Of course, off the top of my head, Ceglarski, Lucia, and Gaudet switched to their alma maters. The latter two still coached as of last night. I don't know about the others.

For the record on the others

Comley was a LSSU guy where he began coaching, Mancini played at CC, Higgins was played at BU around 1960, Sneddon was a Harvard man. Mason played juniors instead.

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

2-0 final and a couple of upsets in HE should be a great tourney in Bean town

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

Fantastic game. Merrimack played a hell of a game.
That's the best atmosphere I've seen in years.

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

Not sure if I Wa glad or sad to find the college hockey fan 101 Friar Flash in the seats tonight, but The Coffin did come alive. May a new fn tradition carry forward. Congrats to the team on a fine season so far. Keep it going

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

Thinking would rather get UVM for the semi not UML (remember 2 years ago and UML is coming on again). Let NU and UML fight each other in the late game on Friday. (believe he higher seed team plays the first game in the semi-finals).

Wonder if Macphee will get a one game suspension for last night hit. Wasn't there for the game so don't know how bad it was but a contact to the head seems to always mean a suspension these days)

Speaking of Boston, UML always brings a lot of fans there. Hope Friar Fans turn out for this.

Keep winning and Friars will end up a 1 seed in Worcester.

If NU hangs in there (probably one more win could get them there but lots of tourney actions left to go) that would put 6 HE teams into the tourney, exactly what NCHC did last year. Going to be a dog fight for those last few spots again.

Remember last year when Friars were hanging by a thread hoping to get in. Feels much better to know you don't have to worry about that this year. :p

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

I did find it amusing that PC had to put instructions on the seats to tell the fans how to create atmosphere at a college hockey game. We are the defending national champs, right? Hope it starts a tradition that carries on next season cause it was loud and intense, which is usually not the case at schneider.

Not necessarily. BU played the late game last year. I think the decision is based on tv ratings potential? In that case you may still be correct given NU is one of the Boston schools. I've got to imagine a BC vs NU matchup would be a lock for the late game.

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

Good luck the rest of the way, guys. PC was the toughest team I have seen Merrimack play all year. No doubt. I think you guys are the best in the league and should be best in the nation. Go win another one for Hockey East!!!

This thread certainly has gotten pushed down

Interesting that Bertagna showed up after the quarters to give them their share of the Lamoriello Cup. Would have taken some of the joy out of showing off if Merrimack had pulled a New Hampshire in the quarters

That aside these seniors are now in need of 2 wins to equal the most wins in a career (the '85 class of Army, Rooney, and Taglianetti) for the program

They are the first class to have had all 4 quarterfinal series in their career on home ice ('92 class--Robbie Gaudreau, Shaun Kane, Mike Boback and Jeff Robison--had a first game at home each year, but the first year was an opening round game similar to the setup now)

No PC class has gone to the semi!s 4 times, they become the second to go 3 times. The first had their 4th trip blunted by a missed open net. Anyone guess that class.

Anyone who saw the series with Merrimack saw the last vestige of Tim Army's legacy pass into history. His last recruit playing has completed his college career.

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

So you can only purchase the weekend package through PC which includes a ticket for the championship game! No thank you!

can't you purchase it through the TD Garden? My father has bought me tickets in advance (like, December) before.

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

I'm assuming the empty net you are referring to is the loss at Cornell in 1979 which would probably be one of the worst in program history. Class of 81' ?

UML is definitely going to be a tough out, but Northeastern is playing with house money and I can see them knock off BC and maybe us if it comes down to it. I can also see them suddenly thinking it's the Beanpot and no-showing against BC as well. What a weird team.

Winner winner. Yes the class of '81--Steve O'Neil and the first of the 3 Sullivan brothers were the key members. While others built the foundation for Lou in the 5 years before this was the class that Lou's (and Stirling's) success pivoted on.

Historically the seniors in '79 have etched their in PC's record book, 3 century point members, a defensemen who had a long NHL player and at the time of his graduation was the 3rd highest scoring Dman in PC history, and a goalie who many of his records survived till Nolan Schaefer arrived. Definitely one of the more crushing defeats.

As far as NU goes, the way they and Roy in particular are playing makes you wish Noel had stuck around. You certainly thought twice about touching the puck with him around

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

Avoid the ticketmaster fees, get better tickets/seats, by going through PC.

Anyways, not like they are going to sell out!

Except they are being stingy with their allotment. We went through Ticketmaster to by a good block of seats because PC would not sell to non-season ticket holders.
