Providence College on the road to Tampa

Pretty quiet here with a big weekend series against the Riverhawks starting tomorrow at Schneider. Someone on the Lowell page provided his observations on the Riverhawks. Quite long but pretty detailed. Makes me wonder how they are 14-4-4 up to now. Certainly Boyle one of the big reasons.

Looking for big Friar fan turnout tomorrow including students who have to get used to hockey games again (it's 3 periods long not 2...:) )

Seeing Boyle with Amherst and Lowell in the past, he would have to improve a ton for me to be scared of him. Terrible rebound control.

I would have to agree regarding Boyle prior to this season. But he has the rebounds under control now and is currently sitting as the fifth best goalie in the country with a 1.62 GAA and his .941 puts him fourth in save percentage. Also six shutouts, tied for 2nd nationally with Demko, but also tied with Connor Hellebuyck for the team single season record. All very impressive. UML sits as 2nd best defensive team in nation so it will be interesting to see how Providence's 8th ranked offense matches up this weekend.

1.62/.941 (1.27/.954 HE) with 6 SOs. Yeah, I'll give him the bad news.

Yea, he had great numbers last year before PC blew him out. Just saying, he had to improve a ton for him to be putting up these numbers. I know Lowell's schedule has been extremely soft to this point so it should be a good weekend to see if they are as good as their record.

I thought you were a UNH fan?

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

Hopefully, the BC weekend was a hiccup and we play up to UML. I'm assuming they won't want a repeat of whatever the hell happened against UCONN.

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

You cracking jokes around here? I don't think you can ever find a "fan" post of UNH from me...

I'm sorry, I figured you would appreciate some humor, considering you spent the last year railroading the goalie who ended up carrying an NCAA championship team. Ahh well, guess no joking in the Providence thread, lest you feel the wrath of Zlaxatives.

The alliance is off till Saturday

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

They need to play the entire game Saturday not a half of one.....this game is bigger than tonights

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

Well after giving up 3 goals in the first period, Boyle got pulled for the backup. One goal a shorthanded beauty by Janko on feed by Mingoia. Tanev with a goal from the side boards through the five hole with around a minute to go in first probably closed the door for Boyle. After that Lowell played much better especially the second after falling behind 4-0 on a Walman PP goal.

Although they peppered the net with shots their only score actually came from a PC player, Pinho, accidentally batting the puck into his own net. PC play on offense was less than stellar in the second and not much better in the third. Although 3rd period saw PC in the sin bin a few times. Lowell did close to 4-2 but in the end Friars hung on for the victory.

Onto Tsongas tomorrow. Suspect Boyle will be back in net for that one.

That is for sure...after going up 4-0 the play was not good. Ellis continues to play strong in net though.

Yea need to be able to finish these games off. This was a game PC dominated for the first 25 mins and just expected Lowell to pack it in.

Absolutely terribly officiated game with interesting calls both ways. No clue how a clean body check near the end of the game was a penalty on the Lowell player for interference when the PC guy had the puck.

I don't think the Lowell game on Saturday is that important to PC getting home ice but is must win if PC wants to win Hockey East.

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

Well that was not pretty. Friars looked like they were stuck in mud especially that third period. No offensive flow in this one.

Ok, so a split it is. They lose ground to the others and BU ties them for fourth.

Next weekend two at home against a UNH team that has lost 6 in a row.
