Providence College on the road to Chicago

Re: Providence College on the road to Chicago

Black Bears are coming in for 2 this weekend. For those going tonight, puck drops just after 6pm, game is on NESN.

4 more points staring at the Friars and the USCHO guys are both picking them for the sweep. Hope so. And I hope they are not getting big heads after this streak, just keep playing like they have..

Worried a little about Maine goalie who came up big against UMASS last weekend, need to get one buy him early.

Magic number is still 3 for this team...3 goals that is.

With a 6pm start might actually see students stay for all 3 periods.

Yup. On to 2018. ;) Good call.

Probably pacing selves with 3 games in 6 days they really didn't look like firing Om all cylinders

Funny we saw this show so many times 6-12 years ago. Tonight we were on the other side of it. A struggling teams plays an excellent game, but down stretch make a bad play get a penalty, then the better team makes it hurt. Winning is a lot more fun!

This team is maturing as we watch

Re: Providence College on the road to Chicago

Didn't look good for Monk as he came off the ice not moving his leg. Friars have been pretty healthy this year overall but McPhee and now probably Monk out for what could be some time. Guess Florentino will need to step it up. The young frosh D men have been playing pretty well.

Gamez got the start on the fourth line tonight. Big night for the top line in this one, Foley goal was a beauty and then his assist pass to Pinho that led to Wilkins goal was another good play. Hawkey did not look good on that second goal but man he came up some big stops after that to keep the Friars in it and to hold the lead late with their goalie pulled.

Lowell broke their slump winning at NU tonight.

We're playing with house money right now. 7 in a row, defense men getting hat tricks...

Hearing @FriarsHockey capt. Josh Monk expected to be out a while w/leg injury. Big loss. Terrific leader, reliable in all situations

What is the estimate for his recovery

I've looked around online but haven't seen anything else. Not yet anyway.

Leaman said Josh Monk (leg injury) is day to day. Alex Cromwell is out with ugly 10-stitch cut on his knee

So other than Thompson, who else do Friars need to worry about on this UCONN team?

Re: Providence College on the road to Chicago

Looks like PC can really help their cause over the next four games. UConn will be a tough matchup tonight and Friday especially if the Friars look past the next two games. The ND series is going to be huge as it may keep one of the teams from a first round by in the HE playoffs.

Looks like the game is streamed online via UCONN link....cost a few pennies to watch as well...

4-1 win with Vimal scoring two goals....looks like the ND series will go pretty far into deciding if PC will have a bye in the Hockey East tourney or not. PC gets the victory over UConn on Friday then a split with ND, you would expect BU to take at least two points from ND in the final weekend.

Re: Providence College on the road to Chicago

Big night at Schneider tonight as the Friars go after number 9 in a row for wins. Ron Wilson, Lou Lamiorello and Cammi Grannato to have jersey retired prior to first period puck drop. Hopefully a good crowd shows up early for this one and Friars bank another win and sweep.

Of note the other night, Rufo led the team in total shots on net, he played due to Duhaime illness.

Friars need to continue their one game at a time attitude, not get ahead of themselves. Got to believe UCONN will come out stronger in this one after not so good game on Wednesday.

Re: Providence College on the road to Chicago

A lot closer than it needed to be as Nichols got the start in goal for UCONN and he stood on his head in this one. Friars outshoot UCONN 52-17 but only manage a 4-3 victory due to Nichols.

Foley with the hat trick tonight. That's 2 hat tricks for the Friars in last two weeks.

Pinho with the other goal on the PP.

One thing I have noticed is this Friar team seems to have more team speed up and down the line up.

Duhaime back in lineup tonight, Gamez sits out as Rufo plays for second game in a row.

One concern is the defense depth with Monk out and hearing it does not look good right now for his return. Right now Leaman going with the 6 main guys, Reed is the 7th D man and only one left.

McPhee could be out long time too (injured up at UNH). That's 2 seniors out of the lineup.

Big weekend next week out in South Bend, opportunity to solidify a bye and home ice or could slide back to first round home ice before last weekend of the season. Friars currently 2 pts behind BU but only one up on Lowell and ND. Big wind for Lowell tonight over BC..and Merrimack coming on whooping BC at Conte....

The problem tonight on defense was Deshairnes was a traffic cone all night and his lack of speed really showed up.

Nichols tonight in goal was weird. He made several outstanding saves while every goal PC scored he probably wants back especially Foley's first and Pinho's.
