Wow! This sounds like a great opportunity for "Saint Genevieve"!

Also great for Sophomore Nina Riley to get time in net for PC. I wonder if Lacasse will be back for the BSU games in MN 9/30-10/1?

Women's Ice Hockey Goalie Genevieve Lacasse Taking Part In Hockey Canada September Camp And Fall Festival
Senior is one of 40 players and four goalies representing country.

Sept. 21, 2011

CALGARY, ALBERTA - Providence College senior goaltender Genevieve Lacasse (Kingston, Ontario) is taking part in Hockey Canada's September Training Camp and Fall Festival. The nine-day event, being held at the Father David Bauer Olympic Arena in Calgary, includes Canada's top 40 female players, according to Hockey Canada.

Lacasse is one of four goalies participating in the program that will feature several practices, exhibitions and two intrasquad games, the first of which faces-off today, September 21.

The camp is serving as an evaluation as Hockey Canada begins to put together its roster for the season's international competitions, including the 2012 World Championships in Burlington, Vt. this coming April.

The invitation is the latest in a series of international accomplishments for Lacasse. Last month, she played three games for Team Canada at the IIHF's 12 Nations Tournament, including a shutout win over Slovakia and a victory over the defending World Champion United States that ended in a shootout.

In January, Lacasse led the Canadian Under-22 National Team to the gold medal in the MLP Cup, stopping every shot she faced while earning three victories in net.

Lacasse is already one of the most prolific goaltenders in Friar history. During the last collegiate campaign, she became the Providence College record holder in career saves (2,582) and saves in a season (948). She also broke the Hockey East mark for saves in a tournament contest, halting 58 shots in the semifinal, overtime loss to eventual champion, Boston College.

Providence College begins its 2011-12 season this Saturday, September 24, hosting Canadian power McGill for an exhibition at Schneider Arena. Face-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

I thought one of last years Freshmen redshirted last year. Would she not be a Fr from a varisty eligibility perspective, rather than a SO as listed above ?

Yes - 9 Stephanie DeMars 5-7 Forward SO Vermontville, N.Y./National Sports Academy missed all of last year with an injury. Under the rule of "5 years to play 4" she should have 4 years of play left though think she is a good student and could finish in 4 - I just cut and pasted the roster as listed. She is one of the exciting adds to the team's strong senior class this year!

Lacasse gives the Friars a chance to win every game as a super goaltender and leader.

Women's Ice Hockey to Open 2011-12 Campaign Saturday with McGill
Friars to host exhibition against defending Canadian national champions.
Sept. 23, 2011

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team will kick off the 2011-12 season Saturday, September 24, with an exhibition against visiting McGill University. Face-off at Schneider Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.

McGill women's hockey is one of the most successful collegiate programs in Canada, having won three of the last four national titles. The Martlets again enter the new year as the defending Canadian Interuniversity Sport Champions, having defeated St. Francis Xavier in the finals last spring.

The 2011-12 Friars will be one of the most veteran-laden to take the Schneider Arena ice in some time, returning seven seniors. The last time Head Coach Bob Deraney coached a team with this many seniors was 2005, when eight veterans led the Friars to the Hockey East Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. This year's upper classmen include goaltender Genevieve Lacasse (Kingston, Ontario), already the Friars all-time leader in career saves (2,582) and saves in a season (948). Lacasse is competing this weekend at the Canadian National Team's Fall Festival in Calgary , Alberta.

Also representing the Class of 2012 is the team's leading scorer from a year ago. Forward Kate Bacon (Chanhassen, Minn.) registered totals of 16 goals and 14 assists for 30 points. She is joined by defenseman Jennifer Friedman (San Gabriel, Calif.), whose efforts earned Hockey East Honorable Mention accolades, and sophomores Rebecca Morse (Westfield, N.J.) and Corinne Buie (Edina, Minn.), who were named to the Hockey East All Rookie team. All told, The PC offense is bringing back seven of its top eight point-getters from 2010-11.

Saturday's exhibition will be the seventh meeting between McGill and Providence, with PC holding a 5-1 edge in the all-time series. Last season, the Friars swept the visiting Martlets in a pair of preseason contests. The Friars will open up the regular season next week, traveling to Minnesota for two games at Bemidji State on September 30 and October 1. The Friars return home on October 15 when Mercyhurst comes to Schneider Arena. Face-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. and tickets are available by calling the PC ticket office at (401) 865 GOPC.
