Providence College 2025-26 Official Season-Long Thread

I'd be curious if they dip into the NHL draft prospects again, like with McQueen, if a kid drafted last year needs some more work or playing time to improve his game, Maybe not a first rounder this year, possibly less of a chance of losing that player after one season.

Thomas Vandenberg. CSB ranked 35. Played at Ottawa this year 25-25-50 and 4-3-7

Overall think roster pretty set with 2 players from last week + Baldwin and at least 3 forwards they recruited 2-3 years ago

So possibly look for forward #15

More important need a solid #2 goalie. I’d think dip into CHL. Leaman also said when got Simpson several other potentials didn’t want to leave their team mid season

Providence landed an OHL goalie. Ben Hrebik. In fact one who had a very strong playoff season this year. Also 26-11 with .920 save percent and a 2.81. His Barrie team got to OHL finals

This year he was teammate of future Friar Nick Desiderio. Last year Beau Jelsma

My suspicion is he has been committed for a long time, just preferred to keep it as quiet as possible from his team as many recruits seems. Jelsma might have done the same thing based on his announcement date (almost a year to the day)

If all had gone according to plan PC would be replacing there 4 year work horse, Jack Parsons would be largely untested, Michael Simpson would have spent the winter in Savannah. Thus from the get go Providence would have been looking for their next goalie. Thus I believe they had him lined up for some time. If you check Leaman interviews at time they got Simpson he mentioned their first direction was to see if a goalie would come mid season from juniors. It also seems PC did not go out of way to retain Simpson, who had but one year left of eligibility

Bottom line will be interesting goalie situation. Will Leaman change philosophy and rotate them or will there be an early season competition winner gets job? Certainly goalie of Hrebik’s quality isn’t coming in to play a couple of games

Like Parsons he’s an ‘06 and on the draft board. Quite likely both he and Parsons will be drafted this summer
