Good crowd last night as well even without students. Hearing they might open dorms early next Saturday for students to attend the HE playoff game.
Centrella is one of the "experienced" defensemen on the team, he will be missed hopefully only for the HE tourney.
Sawyer appeared to be in a lot of pain after hitting his arm/left side on the boards. Was a bit surprised at the DtD comment. Have to see what Leaman has to say on his radio show this week. That sophomore class has really played well this second half as well as the juniors.
It was like a playoff game last night. Not a lot of extra curricula crap you usually will see especially after the whistle in front of the net. UCONN knew it was important game to not take dumb penalties.
Parsons continues to impress. Hope he keeps it going.
Phillip was pretty emotional at the Senior intro. Nice seeing his family there. Not sure anyone remembers, his father passed away just before he came to PC so last night must have been tough for him. Putting him in the closing seconds by Leaman so the team could salute him was awesome.
Another week off to get ready for the lowest winning seed from the opening round.

Since we hit the end of the regular season schedule, a thought: This year's team seemed to play a lot safer and smarter hockey. Limiting the fancy passes getting intercepted by the opponent, turning them into breakaway opportunities. The streak of no SHG surrendered was nice while it lasted. It seemed like defense tightened up over the course of the year.
Was this a home game first for the season without a goal review, or did it just seem like it?
Adams started out poorly, it seemed, transitioned to the penalty kill and really excelled there, and came on strong in the second half of the season. He seemed to play with more energy and more confidence. Same with Malinoski. Didn't show up as much on the score sheet per game, but Hudson was a solid all-around contributor. I hope the two of them will remain next year for their senior year.
Happy for Phil to get the senior night spotlight all for himself. Had his ups and downs, but this was statistically his best season. The unfortunate transition to Parsons coming about from an injury scenario, and instead of having to wait for your senior to leave, you risk finding out your #1 goalie might not be the guy, so they got to see what he can do for next year and beyond.

Amazing , how the friars would have been if they had stayed with the program and had that success.

Bennett Schimek was recruited along with his brother Will. Will was a dman who came in January the year before Bennett started. I believe Bennett was the primary recruiting target and was very good. Will did not get very much ice time and spent his graduate year at Alaska instead of PC. I suspected that Bennett may have transferred as a result of his brother not coming back, (just speculating), but was surprised to see Will on the Alaska roster instead of Arizona State last year. Maybe they weren’t giving him a shot at the roster there.
Both Bennett and Liam Valente were high scorers on their respective new teams the past two years. Despite Bennett’s 43 points this year, his team finished last in the NCHC and it looks like his season is over. Liam and Western Michigan are still going strong and could have a chance of playing PC in the NCAA’s. Liam shows up on their scorecard regularly. I remember when he played at PC that he tended to camp out at the right face off dot and scored most of his points from there. Seemed kind of like a lone actor and didn’t seem to have a 200 ft game. He was a healthy scratch from time to time, so maybe a change in scenery was a mutually beneficial change for him and the Friars who really seem to value more team oriented players.

As disappointing as it was to see Bennett and Liam having greater success at their second stop than for PC, had they stayed I don't know who you bench for them. The 4th line seems too valuable to break up. I think Tanner was comparable to Schimek but don't know if the latter would have been put on the PK like Adams has been. Happy for them having success elsewhere and not in-conference against PC. Which also reminded me about Austen May. If he stayed, who doesn't come to PC? Kale and McCoy have been extremely valuable additions. Maybe Masa spends more time as a healthy scratch? The coaches figured out a way to get everybody that gave them the best shot to win the playing time they earned.
Good point, one best play a 200 foot game for Leaman.
Congratulations to Parsons, Mantei and McQueen for being named to the HEA All Rookie Team. Parsons was the only unanimous choice which makes sense despite the fact that he only started about half of the games. PC had 3 players, Northeastern and Merrimack 2 and BC 1. An interesting distribution compared to other seasons, good to see.

Merrimack is one of the teams that PC split the season series with. PC did note lose a single HEA series with anyone so in that respect Merrimack did well. Mark Divver commented on Twitter that Sawyer was skating during practice but with a non contact jersey on. Would be a big emotional lift if he is in the lineup but seemed doubtful when he left the ice vs U Conn. In any case, looking for a high energy game. Hope the hockey gods are with us tonight!

So here we go tonight. BC punched their ticket to Boston. By puck drop for our game we will know who we would play with a win tonight.

Merrimack always seems to play PC tough and don't want to fall behind on them with the style they play.
With Centrella out expect both Bales and Massa to dress, think Leaman continues to dress the extra D man versus forward.
Guessing if Sawyer is out, Ross gets his spot.
McPhail's is open for a pre-game celebration of Brad's today starting at 4pm, looks like registration is required.

BC, UConn and UMass should all give a big thank you to Merrimack, as Hockey East is now assured of having 2 teams in the National Tournament (PC is a given)
MC finished 8th, but as stated above managed to eke out win against the Friars up in North Andover. Went toe to toe with you guys tonight and came out on top. Absolute snipe by Hoskin to win it in OT.
Friars are excellent, but MC goalie Lundgren was up to the task with 34 saves. Thought 'Mack might fold after giving up that floater goal, but impressed that they didn't.
Hope McQueen stays. He's outstanding, and you guys are in great shape in net. PC should be the odds on favorite for a Hockey East title going into next year.

I'd love a little chaos with the remaining conference tournament games across D1. So many win and you're in scenarios that could leave a few (as of now) tournament teams on the outside.
The Atlantic doesn't matter, they're likely locked in as the #16
As of today, St. Thomas would be a lock for the CCHA - so it's either them or Minnesota State that's in, but I don't think both are
Ohio State is in the B10 championship, and they're on the outside
NCHC is the only one that won't have any surprise champs there
ECAC a Harvard-Clarkson final gets a team in who otherwise wouldn't

Never like a loss, but Merrimack’ win could be another blessing in disguise. A weekend off instead of a stresseful hockey east tournament could be helpful as the friars can concentrate on preparing for the national tournament. Last 2 times the friars went to the final four they lost the hockey east quarter final .
Congratulations to Merrimack and coach Borek, I hope they win 2 in Boston.

Thanks. As the resident (only?) Merrimack poster, I appreciate words of support from others in the HE universe.
Tough row to hoe; Hrabel and the Minutemen are playing really well right now, but I saw them play up in North Andover this year and I think 'Mack can hang with them.
