Providence College 2025-26 Official Season-Long Thread

Anybody else baffled about the NPI formula? I ask in reference to BC losing at home last night and it looks like they actually moved up. Maybe I'm being ignorant of other results, but how does a home loss actually benefit them, unless it's one of those throwaway games that doesn't count?
BC went from 12 to 14. Currently sitting at 13

What a game tonight and the whole weekend. This is a very strong deep team. Will be exciting to watch here on in!. Go Friars!

Tough loss to end the win streak. Some questionable calls and non-calls, which seems to be a running theme with officiating in HE this season. It seemed like they couldn't decide whether to let them play, or call every little incident. Very inconsistent. Still 6 in NPI. Can't win them all. Both BC and UConn with tough schedules the rest of the way. UMass on a roll could be a dangerous team by conference tournament time.

congrats to Chef Mike on his first NCAA win! not a bad idea to give Parsons a little rest and see what Simpson can do. certainly wasn't especially busy (compared to Zacher at least) but 17/18 saves is great, the only goal was on a power play too

Very glad they came back to win today’s game. MCCoy made a great shot from the blue line for the GWG late in the game. Simpson had only 18 shots on goal but played very well with excellent positioning all game. Extremely lopsided SOG differential both nights but Zacker looked like a really good goalie. Good to get the split and stayed at #6 in the NPI. 5 more games to go to determine the regular season champion. The league standings are still in our hands, keep it going! Liked the decision to give Simpson a game, that may well pay dividends going forward.

On to UVM away next weekend, beautiful place in the world, hope our team feels that way after a successful trip.

My ears are still ringing from the screechers behind me tonight. Holy hell. But a great win and bounce back. Like the stability in the NPI with the win. Dartmouth dropped a good bit losing to Brown. PC is actually closer to 5 than I realized, I thought that was out of reach. Denver has two (winnable) games left on their schedule (only two to play), and Quinnipiac is hanging around.

Any coincidence that the two worst officials out of the weekend series were the two newer guys? Last night was Heidemann and tonight was McManus. Two new names to me, anyway. Tried to get the screechers in my section to call him McAnus in hopes that they would get ejected. It failed.

Wow, no posts for this weekend. I will make it brief.

Friars give up first goal early in first. Come back with a PP and shorty to take 2-1 lead after one.

In 2nd they add 2 to go up 4-1. Cats get one back 4-2 after 2.

Parsons with some big saves in 3rd keep VT off scoreboard. Adams closes it out with open net for 5-2 win.

8 points up over BC ( who beat UConn), 9 points over UCONN. UMASS now 4th after being In last before January.

Another 3 points tomorrow would be good to get.

Thank you Cornell! A lot of NPI watching going on. Liked what I saw from the Friars in game 1. Responded in bunches after giving up a first, early goal. Every time this happened since Parsons got the starts PC has responded great. In past years this is a game PC would have collapsed in. 1 goal would become 3 and we'd all be wondering how PC could claw their way back into relevance in the Pairwise or if it was a lost season. I can't run out of good things to say about the 4th line. Tremendous work with the 3 forwards. PC is playing like a team, not a group of guys and one or two standout players. Seems everybody bought in and we're seeing the results. Bring the kids with the right attitude from CHL teams (plus Kale who has been outstanding), and this is the result.

Agree with everything here. What I liked about last night was that I'd grade them a B- on the game and C after the 4th goal and they still dominated the game. VT had a lot of good looks to get the 3rd goal and Parsons continued to come up big.

VT starting goalie let in some brutal goals

Worst FO game of the year

I hadn't looked at the FO numbers from the game but that's disappointing, considering that's often been a strength of theirs. Of all their centers it seems like Roger is one of the few to be on the + side on the dot, and pretty consistently.

Shout out to Malinoski for a hat trick Saturday, with some beautiful tick tack toe passing for the first two that put their goalie out of position. Nice pass from behind the net (Friday) to McQueen out front as well. Looked like the larger ice surface gave them a little trouble this weekend but another HEA sweep so no complaints.

So PC has 48 league points and BC has 39. If BC sweeps every remaining game in regulation it would end up with 51 so PC needs a total of 4 points in their favor to claim the outright regular season title. A point in their favor is any league point they earn in their last 3 games, or a point BC misses in their last 4 games.

Don’t know if the commissioner will cart the trophy around to PC games from now on, but PC could clinch starting this Friday against UNH at home.

Another big congrats to Coach Leaman for PC victory 300 & 301. In his 15th year at PC this means an average of just over 20 wins per season! There are so many impressive metrics in his career here that compare favorably to any other coach in D1 hockey. We are lucky Fr. Shanley and Bob Driscoll hired him! A winner.

Cross our fingers for a good ending to this year.

Shame on anyone who was pushing the "PC hockey needs a new coach" narrative. I would be embarrassed if I was among that little cluster of nega/never-Friars. If they hate PC that much maybe they can latch onto Brown instead....

Actually for the past two years I have been holding my breath hoping that Zlax would not reappear so I haven’t noticed such a negative poster since he passed on. Hope this isn’t some evil trap to lure him/her back. I spent way too much time responding to that nonsense back then and have felt better being amongst a kind of like minded bunch.

Could be missing some non-USCHO thread posters harping on coaches and have certainly seen that regarding MBB, (justifiable IMHO), but not regarding men’s hockey. That would not make sense at all. In hockey the positive results speak volumes. Hope we will enjoy another NCAA appearance and play a bit longer this time around. We may be a little spoiled since for 8 out of the 14 years there has been an NCAA tournament while coach Leaman has been head coach, (20-21 was canceled), we have been in it. That may be the top result in terms of the D1 frozen four tournament for any coach.

How quickly would Nate get picked up if we ever let him go?
