The Freds

Goin' Up?
Well any time a team starts the season 1-0 and sits atop Hockey East is a great start if you ask me. And after last year there is no where to go but up. So here's to a season of upward looking and the attainment of many milestones.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Hopefully they will not have to look up to the rest of Hockey East

Cool. Where were the rose colored glasses?
If they do so much as split in Duluth, I'll take a pair.

If anyone's going to duloot, make sure to say hi to all Dulutherans.

Article on PC hockey in todays Projo. Mostly about Matt Taormina making the Devils this year (FYI, he got his first NHL point last night, on an OT winner). Looks like PC may get more love this year in the Projo, as this new writer seems to be writing more on college hockey. Hope he has something good to write about....

“When he (Taormina) left school after graduating 18 months ago, if you had told me he’d be in the NHL this quickly, I’m not sure I would have believed you,” Army said on Tuesday.

Astute judge of talent there, eh?

Skeeterman being Skeeterman, eh?

I just can't help myself.

On a hockey note: UMD is overrated. They have one scoring line. Beyond that, not much. They enjoy being referred to as "the junior Gophers" as they sport the same colors. The same colors as the hated BC eagles.

BC has more of a metallic gold now.

I think you will see this year that tUMD has more scoring than just our first line :)

Ah, the classic battle between tUMD and St, Clooud.

I'd rather have one scoring line than no scoring lines.

The Friars scored three goals in a game which is encouraging. Usually that is enough for Beaudry. I didn't see the game so I don't know about the quality of the goals or the play of the defense but 3 goals in each if their first two games is encouraging. It would be nice to see the Friars maintain it's early season goal production. I am sorry about the loss as the Friars usually start strong specially for a club that out of the gate before they fade. I'd like them to have a few more wins under their belts before they hit the meat of the conference schedule but three goals last night was encouraging.
I'm curious to see what tonight will bring! Go Friars.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Listened to Mike Logan do the game on friars.com last night.

- PC91 is right, scoring 3 goals is good
- 5 on 5 PC was good, when they put UMD on the power play it was a different story. UMD is very good on the power play. Giving them a power play 16 seconds after PC went up 1-0 was a killer - lead to a goal. Giving them a penalty shot when PC was on the power play, which put them 2 goals ahead - was also tough.
- Like Rooney's edge, but he has to play smarter. Think he took 3 bad penalties
- Bergland wasn't really a factor at all.
- Derrick Army played well again
- Wonder if some of the Minnesota kids see the ice tonight - Maloney, Landman, Brown
- Mike interviewed Clark Donatelli during an intermission, seems like he will be a positive to the program. Mentioned Rask wasn't there as he is recruiting in Western Canada

Tighten things up tonight and PC has a good chance at a spilt.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

A split this weekend would be real nice. It sounds like there are some hopeful early signs in this young season, despite the outcome last night. It will be awhile before I am able to see this year's edition in person. I will have to settle for rooting from afar. Thanks for the update Chris.
