Thought beating the #7 ranked team on the road, was worthy of starting the in-season thread.

Was a little nervous there in the third when Eppich didn't connect on the breakaway and the power play was non-existant on the 5:00 major (only one shot?!?) - but all was good when Jamnick shot that puck in.

Sounded like Beaudry was strong and Danny New had a very good game (just hope New isn't really hurt.) Fayne, Bergland, the freshmen, etc. all played great.

Just a very good win against a ranked CCHA team on the road early in the season.

Hope it continues tomorrow night!

Go Friars!

What was the story of the game tonight? I didn't get to see any watching the UC/USF football game.

Fayne scored from the point 3 minutes into the game to give the Friars a 1-0 lead, and the teams traded goals the rest of the way, with PC never trailing. Beaudry gave up a soft goal in the 3rd, which tied the game at two, but he singlehandedly kept the team afloat during the latter half of the 1st period when ND was controlling play (shots 19-7 in favor of ND after 1st). PC seemed to settle down in the 2nd and 3rd, and actually outshot ND the rest of the way. Bergland and Jamnick scored the other goals, both of which came on nice feeds.

Certainly not the most impressive performance by the Friars, but they made the most of their chances and stole a win. As chrisP said above, I thought PC was done after the Irish killed off that major penalty, but you have to give the young team credit for not folding up the tents and coming through with a late goal. PC's power play was downright putrid, and overall they have no clue how to play a possession game, often settling for low-percentage outside shots. But a win is a win, and one can't complain about starting the season 2-0 after last year's abomination.

About time you kicked off the actual in-season thread...:p

Good job by PC last night of remaining patient and taking advantage of what they were given. They threw the body around pretty well last night too. Wasn't expecting them to be quite that physical. Watch for Notre Dame to ramp it up a number of notches where that's concerned tonight.

Congrats to PC on the win.

Like a fine wine it's better to let things age. We can't be rushed into things.:D
Good game last night and I'm sure tonight will be no exception. I fully expect to see the Irish come out flying. It will be a good test for Friars and I think that we are all interested to see how they respond.
Your a good sport IHF and I wish your team all the best the rest of the way.
I just wish I could have made it out to South Bend this weekend. The USC game scared me away.:o

Re: Providence - 2009-10 In-season Thread

Yes, after beating Notre Dame with less than their most impressive performance (Jumbolaya), PC can expect to Notre Dame to "ramp it up a number of notches" tonight (Irish Hockey Fan).

Because Notre Dame learned from the Bemidji game and is not going to let that happen to them again. And they probably, help me here IHF), really learned from the UAH game last weekend. And they probably really, really learned from last night's game.

I love the cliches, boys and girls, please keep them coming. They make the games themselves seem so unimportant. PC didn't give :their most impressive performance? Please. Why not just love your team beating Notre Dame?
