Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: Lefties whining and regurgitating fake news
Making judgements about people you dont know based on their television and movie choices is elitist and dumb and I bet if there was ever an actual in depth study would prove no real correlation.
That's a foolish statement. In large part, people are what they do. And people tend to spend a ridiculous amount of time watching TV. I don't know how you can say that what they choose to spend that much time watching doesn't say something about who they are.
You can't smoke a pack a day and say you're into being healthy. You can't eat at McDonalds 5 times a week and say you're into fitness. You can't watch 20 hours of unchallenging, familiar, trite television a week and say you're open to new ideas or curious and engaged with the world around you.
Some people like safe, simple, formulaic, familiar stuff that looks like them and reaffirms their views of themselves. Other people like new, challenging, even uncomfortable stuff that might ask a little more in terms of change and introspection. Those list of TV shows align pretty well with what just happened to this country.
I know plenty of smart people that watch unsmart shows. I know plenty of morons that watch what is supposedly genius crap like Once Upon a Time.
Let's not get carried away with genius or anything else like that when discussing this topic. It's television, we're distinguishing between low and middle brow, at best.
IMHO, television is among the roots of all evil in our society. How many billions of hours are flushed down the toilet every year, in this country alone, watching mindless crap? How many inventions, cures, great novels, songs, volunteer opportunities have gone unfulfilled due to our fixations with television? I say this not as an elitist but as someone who p i zz es away more than his fair share of time in front of the television. I get it, it's easy to do, but it's also pretty telling about who we are as a society and as individuals.
