POTUS: Definitely Needs Anger Management

That's a bit of a leap and an extreme one, at that.

History has proven that business owners will, on the whole, screw over everyone in chase of the extra dollar unless the government or a very strong union steps in.

The problem with your form of libertarianism is that you have to assume perfect knowledge and equal bargaining power from literally everyone for it to work. Unfortunately, the real world isn't perfect.

I'm not sure why this isn't 100% understood by our population at this point. The history is clear on the subject.

This is why The Jungle should be required reading in high school. Not for English or lit class, but civics and history.

The Jungle is a grim reminder that businesses will **** you every step they can. And if you’re not actively fighting back, you’re already losing ground.

Scooby is 100% right in his post above.

It also willfully ignores that under every system invented by man so far the Rich have corrupted "equal" treatment and violated the Poor. Libertarianism is an even worse crock of sh-t Utopia than Communism, and that is saying something.

It's a way for the rich to pull the covers over their head and claim their hands are clean:

As if neglect and exploitation were not every bit as coercive as policing and colonialism.

Because the people that run things are able to convince the lower educated worker bees that they have their best interests in mind...

Because the people that run things divide and conquer. There's a reason urban POC and rural whites hate each other. That reason operates inside both parties.

If the Working Class every got a whiff of what was really going on there wouldn't be a millionaire left off the gibbets by sundown.

And while it is hardly fair that in those scenarios the Kochs and I share the same fate, well, I don't condone it... but I understan'.

The law in all its majesty forbids the rich and poor alike from sleeping under bridges.

This form of libertarianism also doesn’t understand public health and what is good for people on a large scale.

There's a reason it's 99.8% white male techy. It's the personification of the STEM whizkid in his freshman dorm: everything about it flatters the manboy with no responsibilities or dependencies who has the education and resources to make his way, no systemic bigotries to hold him down, and no immediate health issues to worry about.

It is the politico-econo-fap fantasy of a sheltered smart but unsavvy adolescent boy, writ large to appeal to (and be funded by) the wealthy looking to avoid paying taxes. Its pose of moral neutrality is hypocritical in a world of obscene inequality. Its assumption of objective meritocracy belies the people purveying it had the privilege (and, to be fair, perhaps the intellectual gifts) to have an easy path to success.

They now want to see this formalized forever, and called both "practical" and "moral." Just like the warlord wants a world based on brute strength or the zealot wants it based on the Grace of the Almighty.

Just another con; this time primarily a self-delusion and rationalization for immature well-scrubbed boys.

As Rube is I was. As I am Rube will be.

Take a good look at your craggy, sour, world-wise, Socialist future self, son. You're comin' in right on the beam.

Or as someone else once noted:

Lyndon Johnson said:
If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.

But......but.....I'M going to be a millionaire one day.

I don't want that happening to me.

I’ve seen a couple themes in people I know who are big libertarian. Besides always being white and male, they almost always come from well off families. They also don’t have a lot of empathy.
Oh, you don’t like living downwind of where 3M dumps toxic sludge? It’s their right to pollute. Move.
Can’t afford to move? Too bad, your choice. Should have gotten a better education.
Oh, you lived in a poor school district with poor resources? Too bad, your parents should have gotten better jobs.

Yep. All of those. Libertarian is rotten public policy.

Yes, but they're a lot of fun at parties. All that free love and all the drugs you can consume before overdosing. ;) Libertarian campaign slogan: "If it feels good - Do It!"

I doubt either Larry Niven or Jerry Pourelle was much fun at parties.

Heinlein, maybe. In his 40s. As an Old he was awful.

Those are libertines, not libertarians.
