There a lot more to the Whelan case that the trolls are conveniently ignoring. Whelan was actually thrown out of the Marines in 2008 after a court martial conviction on multiple counts of larceny, and made several visits to Russia of his own accord, including as far back as 2006 while deployed (which seems weird AF). While none of that necessarily adds up to the espionage Russia claims he was engaged in, there's definitely something "off" about his activities in that country. I suspect there's at least some sort of hustling, attempt to steal info for profit, or money laundering there that we aren't hearing about. Regardless, this hagiographic "Marine hero" narrative the botskis are pushing is obvious jingoistic BS.
