I never even thought of that. I bet it is a wash because of the cameras. So not an effective threat to anyone who is willing to steal.

Green peppers are always the cheapest here. Red, yellow, and orange are usually grouped into a higher price bracket like 3 for $5.

Both Dick's Sporting Goods and Bass Pro Shop have a shrink rate of 8-10% of total merchandise value. Obviously they care more about losing single, high ticket items over a ton of $2-3 items. And the biggest culprit isn't people trying to walk directly out the door... Like was hinted at with the self-checkouts, it's people paying a much lower price than they should on high ticket items. Thing is, other than offering to ring it up for the "correct" price, there is pretty much NOTHING that can be done against perps who try and run this scam.
