If Fark is to be believed, the pardons only effect about 6500 people. One concern - well, more a point of order - is that most charges for simple possession are plead down from other charges as cops haven't been arresting anyone for only having a small amount of weed in DC for a long time.

Still the right move.





Also, this is 15 years overdue. Good for Biden, who consistently impresses me.

Yeah, I think if you look at the data, certainly over the last 10 years or so, very few people get sentenced federally for marijuana possession crimes. I saw an article from the WaPo that said that in 2017 the number was something like 90 people.
 
Aren't Mose federal charges related to trafficking and dealing?

It's not surprising that there isn't a huge number of people that are in jail/prison for ONLY pot. That's more something you see from local cops that want to harass the black/brown/young folk.

Having them look into rescheduling is a huge deal and yet it is barely a footnote in the announcement because the pardons are such a huge deal. If it gets rescheduled then legalization is a lock which leads to federal taxes and other positive factors.

Personally I hope Walz comes out tomorrow and says he will follow the President's lead...hell any Blue Governor in a purple or Blue State should. This is an easy victory.

Rescheduling also unlocks a lot more money for research, which is huge- at least, for those of us who care about science.
 
It's more than just letting them out...he is pardoning their record if I read right even thosewho are out of jail. If those charges get expunged that opens a lot of doors for people that were previously closed. (I have familiy with these issues so I know the problems it causes)

My guess is Biden (tops) a 4 year plan for legalization but he will need Congress to make it work. Vote Blue baby :^)

If you’re a druggie in Maine you can commit all the crimes you want and won’t get in trouble. It is horrifying some of the stuff criminals do and just get a slap on the wrist.
 
Is Mane REALLY being singled out as a hot bed of crime? Seriously?

They are lower in national average in all types of crime- especially murder, robbery, and assault.

Although, the angry white guy up there are doing their best to be worse on rape.

This VERY much shows you how gullible people are to propaganda from their tribe. Good that you feel afraid, drew- I'm sure you've also gone out and padded your arms based on that fake fear. The arms manufacturers are happy. Sucker.
 
Violent crime is down around the US. The GOP just knows its lies will travel round the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.
