POTUS 45.65: I'm Just Here For The Lincoln Project Ads

I think the trial will be both a nothingburger and a delicious show. Like watching a movie you know the ending to...but if he testifies it will be ramped up to 11 and I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't some "demonstrations" that go bad.

I wonder how much traction a "free dumpy" rally would get.

I havent read he wants to testify in any legit source but I guarantee he wants to. He will never have a bully pulpit like that again as a former President until he runs again. It is intoxicating...

But no lawyer can let him do that just like they wouldn't let him talk to Mueller under oath or help his defense in that first trial. Lying to Congress is a crime. Knowingly letting someone lie to Congress would, I would think, be a disbarable offense. It would be a disaster for him and would be a double disaster for the GOP. Talk about Sophie's Choice...they either have to stick to their guns and acquit him despite committing perjury (which make them look weaker than Kevin McCarthy) or they have to change their mind and convict which puts them in the scope of the Trumpers.

I can't see how any lawyer (outside of crackpots like Lin wood and Rudy) could afford to do it. Beyond the legal issues they won't get paid and their reputation will be shot. The amount of business they will likely lose because of it will be insane. Big firms can't survive defending Cletus on meth charges...

Legal defenses aside, how would you like to be the atty. who has to prepare him for cross? (assuming you've already tried to convince him not to testify)

In a way it's easy cuz there's no doing it. He's too arrogant to listen, too ADD to pay attention, and too dumb to learn. So you give him your best DD and then send him in there. Nobody will blame you.

Very true, but at some point you or your partner would have to get up in front of the whole nation (world) and give a summation based on runny shyt.

Yeah there is no way you can just let him wing it...even if you take the legality out of it (cause the Bar will be calling) he might completely change your entire strategy mid-sentence. I mean we saw his "Elite Strike Team" have to do that when under just the basic scrutiny of a judge looking at their briefs and they are friggin trained to do this stuff. A halfway decent lawyer will walk him out of his old arguments and into new even crazier theories that contradict everything he said 5 minutes prior.

The only chance his lawyers would have is to not prepare anything if they just let him go like that. Wing it like he does so they can adapt on the fly. No matter what it won't be as boring as the last one. This could be the stuff of legend...

"We rest our case, your honor." And sit down.

Trump: "mumble mumble mumble lie lie lie"
Lawyer: "Yep...what he said"

So it seems that all 5 lawyers quit because Trump wants to use the Big Lie as his defense. He wants to argue the election was stolen. That is the rumor anyways...

Problem with this defense, is that it basically concedes that he instigated the insurrection, but that he was justified in doing so, because of the stolen election.

I also read where debt has been “whiped” amd seniors are getting checks of 1.3m each ...

doesn’t this crowd hate socialism?

oh they’re all white never mind

That is part of the problem yes and if true they quit (some seem to think it may have been a firing for saying no to his demands) in large part because of that. I highly doubt any lawyer is looking forward to the idea of using an affirmative defense during an Impeachment for Incitement.

Now unofan would know way better but I would also think since this is a legislative trial and not a judicial trial there is no jeopardy attached. If that is the case and Trump uses an affirmative defense that is admissible in a court of law. (This Memo from the AG in 2000 seems to agree with me) That would be another reason competent lawyers would run away fast.

I doubt anyone on his team planned or will plan to admit incitement but claim it was justified. Rather, Dump will claim he was simply telling a political assembly what he believed was true then and still does: that the election was stolen. He did not tell the crowd to injure or kill anyone or to destroy the capitol building; he was just using the kind of "pep rally" rhetoric politicians and social advocates use all the time. He will reference the BLM protests. He will claim that this impeachment is unconstitutional and nothing more than a political hit job, that his rhetoric is being treated differently because it reveals an ugly truth that the establishment refuses to admit and does not want people to hear. A competent atty could provide some room for dump to make his insane claims and still make constitutionality his primary defense. Thing is, no respectable attorney would represent him on that stage if he is allowed to testify.

And the issue of his testifying is probably the reason his attorneys quit or were fired.

Even if we believe he can hold it together under direct examination the Dems would be drooling to walk him through the minefield of his cross examination. He can barely handle the press asking him questions without admitting guilt can you imagine what Raskin is going to do to him? They will bait him into saying pretty much anything. Hell if they just tell him he COULDNT incite violence he might admit he did it and would do it again...and I am only partially kidding!

He does have new lawyers I guess...one of whom got in trouble for refusing to bring a case against Bill Cosby allegedly. Sounds just dumb enough to let Trump testify!

I usually have little interest in watching political hearings, since they are typically nothing but self-serving posturing with wholly predictable outcomes. But if dump testifies at his own impeachment hearing? I'd postpone major surgery to see it live.

That would be a moment in history that people will talk about 40 years from now. I mean just the thought of it is enough to make me drool. Him walking in with that stupid faux cocky strut of his and that constipated look on his face. Him sitting down pointing to all his sycophants in the Senate. The growing smile of arrogance as his lawyers hold his hand walking him through questions and stopping him from saying something stupid. The sigh of relief will be audible when they finish...and then the Dems take over and every sphincter on the Right tightens. [insert Lady G. joke here]

I have this image of A Time to Kill only instead of rapey Kevin Spacey trapping Samuel L. Jackson into admitting the rednecks deserved to die it will be Trump. A slow build of questions and then Trump yelling out "Yes I wanted them to stop the count by any means necessary!".

It will never happen because I think the GOP would assassinate him before they would let him screw up that badly.
