I wonder if our State Republicans are going to overrule Whitmer.

I don't think so. Based on the statements I've seen, I think they actually like playing the foil despite voting to give her authority. They get to drive up all the anger they want with no blame.

So. Abortion.

The rise of Peter Navarro – the man put in charge of marshalling emergency US production of medical equipment in the midst of a pandemic – is in many ways a classic story of the Trump era.

The 70-year-old White House trade adviser was first recruited by Trump because he wrote a string of books about the Chinese strategic threat – one called Death by China – despite having spent almost no time in the country and having no grasp of the language.

Five of Navarro’s books cited a China hand with a particularly pithy turn of phrase called Ron Vara, who turned out not to exist. The name is an anagram of Navarro and the imaginary expert operated as an alter ego, confirming the author’s views.

It's so cute to watch the conservatives whine about the media. The same conservatives who think Fox News and the WSJ are liberal rags and have all bubbled themselves into OANN. So precious.

So, they're afraid of election by mail. The acolytes don't know how to use the US Postal Service? Pretty simple thing. You make sure you have some postage on your envelope. You put the thing you need in the envelope in the envelope. You address the envelope. And you put the thing in what we call a Mail Box. Come on conservatives, say it with me, MAIL BOX.

What a bunch of ****ing pansies.

The California Republican (Kevin (I am a *****) McCarthy), echoing the White House, added that "there's also a lot of fraud" that can happen with mail-in voting.

Hey, if post office dissolves this summer, we won’t even be able to mail!

That's probably the Republican plan. Destroy the US Mail altogether. Privatize it. Then, we can't vote by mail without paying the toll. Unconstitutional so no voting by mail anymore.

Re: POTUS 45.63: This Thread Gets Better Ratings Than The Super Bowl

Never mind that Article I specifically gives congress the power to establish a post office and postal routes.

Even the founding fathers they purport to revere knew a postal system was necessary.

Actually, that would backfire on the GOP. If the USPS folds, certified mail would still need to be sent/received.

Now, every single one of us will have a tracking number for our ballots we mailed in via UPS or FedEx. Maybe even have these companies generate the tracking number when a ballot is printed at home or picked up. You would have an almost 1:1 check of mail-in ballots (obviously with a slight margin of error for people who forget to return it, mail it late, etc.).

It would be in the best interest of the GOP to allow vote by mail AND continue to fund the USPS. Control the system.

Jesus. The GOP really are rock stupid.

Isn't it around $7-8 to send a document "certified" (documented receiving). Wouldn't that be considered a "poll tax"?

Re: POTUS 45.63: This Thread Gets Better Ratings Than The Super Bowl

Not if that is covered by the federal government.

Elections are in control of the states. So each state would have to cover the cost.

Cost of sending certified mail (might be able to get a bulk rate from these shippers) probably would be close to what is spent to pay for poll officials, machines, rental of poll venues...

The feds could provide block grants to the states and fund it that way.
