POTUS 45:56 Biden Memes to Own the Cons!

Re: POTUS 45:56 Biden Memes to Own the Cons!

The reason why CNN does this is simple: they're not a news network, they're an entertainment network. If you want ratings you are going to put out the New York Post, not the New York Times.

The New York Times these days is putting out the New York Post.

Re: POTUS 45:56 Biden Memes to Own the Cons!

Smart people have all but abandoned cable now the way they did network news 20 years ago.

Wouldn't network news be preferable now? If for no other reason than they only have a half hour (of national news) each night, meaning they can actually fill it with relatively useful information, versus needing to pad 24 hours a day.

Re: POTUS 45:56 Biden Memes to Own the Cons!

That's why I'm looking more closely at Iowa in the general election than most of pundidiotry. Lots of people want to adopt the "oh, rural white folks, forget about winning them over" mantra. Not only has Chump failed to deliver economic populism to these people, he's actively screwing them out of their livelihood with his tariffs and trade wars. If you as a farmer just got beat the last two years because of this, you have to realize that the one thing standing in the way of these tariffs going bye-bye is the President. Vote him out and you'll get relief in 2021 even if you never vote for a Democrat again afterwards. Re-elect him and you'll be struggling until at least 2025 provided you can hold out that long.

Problem is, those markets are gone. They ain't coming back. Trump screwed those folks royally, and there's no coming back from that. I posted a link a while back with some guy saying China is never going to be stupid enough to rely on the US again as their sole, or primary source for anything in the future, because of what Trump has done. Our soybean market loss is Brazil's gain, and China ain't coming back to us just cause Trump is no longer in office.

Unless maybe they get offered a helluva great deal to do so. Trade wars are easy to win.

I was surprised when Dump took Iowa in 2016. I had thought that Iowa was a "nice" Midwestern state like Minnesota: educated enough to be moderate on the Jesus Nonsense and savvy enough to realize that Untrammeled Casino Capitalism is the worst conceivable economic system for rural people. I felt all Field of Dreams about it and, boom, Children of the Corn.

The cities are the former, the rural areas are the latter. My US representative won Polk County (Des Moines and most suburbs), and lost the other 15 in the district. But that's where the people are.

There's only one GOP state senator and maybe 2 GOP representatives left out of the 20 or so representing the Des Moines metro. The senator and one of the reps only hung on because of the rural part of their combined district. Come 2021, that rural part will be gone after redistricting.

Well, basically every state re-enacts the dumb rural red / smart urban blue divide. All 50 laboratories of democracy are running exactly the same experiment: if you get an education and live someplace with people who look and believe differently from you then you grow, otherwise you putrefy.

I would think that in most cases, you’ve got cause and effect reversed. “I’m going to hold onto my heritage” vs “I can’t wait to turn 18 and get out of here.” But that’s just my suspicion (that the liberally inclined seek out diversity and vice versa). Nature over nurture?

Another of the best people.

WASHINGTON — As Donald J. Trump was preparing to deliver an address on energy policy in May 2016, Paul Manafort, his campaign chairman, had a question about the speech’s contents for Thomas J. Barrack Jr., a top campaign fund-raiser and close friend of Mr. Trump.

“Are you running this by our friends?” Mr. Manafort asked in a previously undisclosed email to Mr. Barrack, whose real estate and investment firm does extensive business in the Middle East.

Mr. Barrack was, in fact, coordinating the language in a draft of the speech with Persian Gulf contacts including Rashid al-Malik, an Emirati businessman who is close to the rulers of the United Arab Emirates.

The exchanges about Mr. Trump’s energy speech are among a series of interactions that have come under scrutiny by federal prosecutors looking at foreign influence over his campaign, his transition and the early stages of his administration, according to documents and interviews with people familiar with the case.

Investigators have looked in particular at whether Mr. Barrack or others violated the law requiring people who try to influence American policy or opinion at the direction of foreign governments or entities to disclose their activities to the Justice Department, people familiar with the case said.

The inquiry had proceeded far enough last month that Mr. Barrack, who played an influential role in the campaign and acts as an outside adviser to the White House, was interviewed, at his request, by prosecutors in the public integrity unit of the United States attorney’s office in Brooklyn.

Perhaps, but I have a feeling if you have two men of equal intelligence, and you take the proto-liberal who wants to see the world and inter him on the farm because of some series of Wonderful Life misfortunes, and you take the proto-conservative and through some wacky series of escapades he winds up sharing a West Village loft with a drag queen, a Latina ACLU lawyer, a rabbi, and an Armenian midget circus, at the end of 10 years you'll have an NRA dou-chebag on the farm and a kind, tolerant man of the world in the city.

I believe Nurture nukes Nature, other things being equal.

I have faith in Claude Hooper Bukowski.

I swear, by the end of 2020, Bill Kristol is going to be a liberal.

Great, so maybe instead of burning in hell for eternity for his Iraq War cheerleading we'll cut it down to 1000 years with time off for good behavior. ;)

Irving Kristol is good for 1000 years because at least he meant well, albeit he did great damage.

William Kristol has never meant well. Even when he's spewing crap that is temporarily useful, he's still just spewing crap for his own selfish ends.

He's like all the con failsons: Jon Podhoretz, Robert Kagan, Jerry Falwell Jr., Franklin Graham. They can all eat a bag of dicks.

His Vietnam was avoiding STDs

I remain unconvinced that he's entirely avoided them.

Thanks to dx for mentioning this guy. A good follow

Trump's inability to give even a short speech- to produce language from reading- is worsening. Notable is his trunk to shoulder area involuntarily jerking as he slurs. His hands splay out, even as he leans his weight on the podium w/ his palms. He's regularly starting to sound like my grandmother did about two years ago. Even with his limited vocabulary, the semantic issues are how it usually starts. When we got the first hint of it over a year ago, when he slurred "United Shhates" at the end of a speech and everyone was babbling about it I thought, "OK, a denture slip. He'll never admit he wears them, but I can buy that." Lately though, it's all too obvious he's losing it, and if he really does get a second term there's little question Pence is going to end up calling the shots that matter.

I'd also mention the inflating of numbers, but that's something Trump has done his entire life, so it's hardly a symptom of anything but his own megalomania.

Re: POTUS 45:56 Biden Memes to Own the Cons!

Then who does get asylum, you asshat

BREAKING: Attorney General William Barr has just reversed a 2018 immigration court ruling in a massive blow to asylum laws, saying those with family members who have been persecuted in their home country because of “race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion” are not necessarily eligible to claim asylum.

https://thehill.com/latino/455163-b...g-persecution-cant-automatically-claim-asylum

With decisions like this, the message is clear - we don't want you anymore. Who the hell even wants to come here at this point, when 50+% of Americans actively hate you and wish you'd just die in your home country as another statistic?

We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler machine gun hand

It's a given that 80% of West Virginia is more "disgusting and rodent-infested" than most of Cummings' district.
