Ya know, its not outside of the realm of possibility that any Dem candidate running in 2020 will be asked to square his or her position that we've been doing nothing but losing for 40 years with the high popularity of Barack Obama amongst the very people who will decide the nomination. Some might say that question is likely, or even probable!

Running on a "Obama was well meaning but accomplished nothing" platform might not appeal to these people. Just sayin...

This is a problem that is shared -- though not equally -- be people of many political persuasions, and it is killing America. Almost no one can admit they were wrong politically anymore. Republican voters of course are far worse than Democratic voters.

God forbid you just admit that trump was not what you thought he'd be, that your thinking that a "businessman" was what America needed was off base. But people believe that admitting failure -- of any kind -- is a sign of weakness. We've fooled ourselves to such an extent that we can't even admit it to ourselves. So even in the privacy of the voting booth, trump voters will be unable to muster the wherewithal to correct their course.


Every single swinging dick out there who voted for trump will vote for him again -- provided they are still actually alive in November of 2020. Every one. As has been said many times in this forum and in other places, it is all about turnout. Democrats have GOT to turn out their voters in 2020, and do so in massive numbers not seen before. They need to win up and down the ballot. If you vote for anyone who identifies as a republican, you are part of the problem. At this point in our history as a nation, the republican party is the party of evil.

Obama's Presidency, IMO and born out by his continued popularity amongst the people who will decide who the Dems nominate, is one of vastly increased healthcare coverage, higher taxes on the rich, increased regulation of the financial industry, and drawing down the Iraq War that he inherited. I'd also note that Obama's justice department argued and won the gay marriage case before the SCOTUS - something one would think the Chump administration would decline to do.

So, "Let's keep moving forward" is a more inspirational argument than "We've hit rock bottom" or "Nowhere to go but up". However, fortunately for us the voters will decide which one resonates more. I have a feeling like much of your life to this point you're about to be disappointed for the umpteenth time but that's cool. If some candidate out there can simultaneously argue that Obama was a failed President while at the same time goosing turning amongst Dems who are highly favorable of him, then that's one hell of a tightrope they will have walked. I'd totally feel comfortable about that person's chances in the general election. I'm just skeptical any of the "we've been getting our a ss kicked nonstop for 40 straight years" crowd can actually pull that off.

But, they can say if you want Health Care, or Social Security, or Medicare, or Medicaid, or Infrastructure, or sane immigration policy, or anything else you better hire us. But, hey, if you like the status quo vote for the idiot.

Not at all. But there's a lot of truth to the fact that if the economic recovery had been faster, and its benefits more widespread, then Trump would not have had a chance.

Also true is the fact that Trump has in-done much of what good he did do, and in some areas made things worse than when Obama was elected. Ignoring those things is turning a blind eye to the truth, and the problems we face today. Any candidate worth his or her salt should be able to articulate that to the voters, and why their election is necessary for the country.

But you're just hung up on all or nothings. Either Obama was great, or he was a loser. Either he did great things, or he did nothing. Candidates either have to embrace him 100%, or dismiss him completely.

Life doesn't work that way. Adults understand that. Grow up.
