I remember reading about his early career and thinking of the short cop on Barney Miller who always stood on his toes. Right place, right time; no particular talents except for a complete lack of human emotion.

He can skate better than I, though.

Yes, someone recently dredged up his Stasi ID card, which he presumably used to access their facilities as needed. He also speaks fluent German due to his time there.

Dude was a footsoldier who knew how to charm superiors. Also knew some polysci academics in St. Petersberg who helped him get his hand on Yeltsin's vodka bottle. Nothing otherwise noteworthy.
