My point isn't that I expect or hold out hope that mainstream providers of the news like FOX and CNN ever behave in a way that truly informs the citizenry, it is that since they do not, people mostly walk around uninformed. You only want to attack anything I post, so you always miss the point. But I appreciate the lecture.

1) Before the election, CNN didn't give Trump positive press...it was rightly quite negative. Comey's indictment of Clinton a week before the election caused Trump to win...not CNN's criticism of Trump. CNN did its job by help getting rational voters to go for Clinton. The electoral college made it so the smear of Clinton mattered more than exposure to Trump's true nature.

2) If you're just looking for a one sided perspective (a liberal, fact-based Fox), watch Madow, Huffpo, etc

Truth is liberals and independents generally want a rather unbiased source of information. I know I do. I want the straight news and then I am smart enough to make the call from there. CNN has less bias than these other sources (i.e., MSNBC, Daily Beast)and has more cred than them among the broader society. That's why a straight up liberal radio station doesn't work. Secondly, liberals want to win a fair debate where there are multiple ideas - and they want to win, but by the rules. These reasons are why before Trump, MSNBC had much lower ratings than CNN. And will again when we get away from Trump and there is not nearly so much to unpack. CNN is the big tent media outlet.

I'm with you, I only want facts and the occasional deeper conversation about the events. I also realize the CNN coverage of trump is -- and has been -- mostly unfavorable. But not in a way that that leaves the viewer more informed and understanding the deeper existential threats being delivered to our democracy. If they did, they'd likely turn off far more viewers than they would attract. CNN covers trump in a way that is designed to maximize viewers. I wish we had more wide reaching broadcast outlets that saw the news as more of a calling than a profit center but those days are many decades in the rearview mirror.

Anyone who can critically think can discern and figure out what's good journalism and what isn't good journalism. All the fast food joints have good food on the menu if you know where to look. And we all can read between the lines.

Maddow is one of the smartest out there and she is a full on Policy Nerd who can discuss this stuff at its highest levels and make it interesting and digestible. That said her show has been borderline unwatchable for a while now. It is quite obvious how angry she is (and rightly so) and it really has dragged down the level of the overall show. She probably covers specific stories better than anyone (mainly because she doesnt even hint at trying to be down the middle so she can ask ***?!) but the overall quality of the show is lacking. I would still take her over everyone else at any of the 24 hour fast food joints
