POTUS 45.4 - What's a Battle?

Re: POTUS 45.4 - What's a Battle?

Kind of like when left leaning politicians, media members, and even posters here who know better, attribute to Sinclair Lewis the quote, "When fascism comes to America, it will come wrapped in the flag and waving a cross"???

I actually like this quote even better:

James Waterman Wise, Jr., in a recent address here before the liberal John Reed club said that Hearst and Coughlin are the two chief exponents of fascism in America. If fascism comes, he added, it will not be identified with any “shirt” movement, nor with an “insignia,” but it will probably be “wrapped up in the American flag and heralded as a plea for liberty and preservation of the constitution.”

And in fact, with the emergence of today's Republican party, it happened exactly thus.

Even when it was the GOP turning our country into a fascist kleptocracy, I knew it was the liberals.

Yep, but it's not as snappy, doesn't fit on a t-shirt as well, and you can't tweet it in one quote.

There's nothing sappy about the original quote. Patriotism and religion are the twin keys dictators have always used to turn the ignition of authoritarianism, and conservatives fall for them every time.

The death of journalism.

Gerard Baker, the editor in chief of The Wall Street Journal, vigorously defended his newspaper’s coverage of President Trump on Monday, rejecting suggestions that The Journal had not been aggressive enough.

Facing tough questioning at a town-hall-style meeting with the staff, Mr. Baker denied that The Journal had been too soft in its coverage, according to several people who participated in the meeting. He suggested that other papers had discarded objectivity, and that anyone who wanted to work at an organization with a more oppositional stance toward the administration might want to find a job elsewhere, these people said.

“It’s a little irritating when I read that we have been soft on Donald Trump,” he said, according to two of the people.

Uh. Huh. You're in the back pocket of Donald Trump every day in your newspaper and you're the objective one. What a joke.

They wear their hatred as a literal badge of honor

This man has direct access to the President of the United States of America. In 2017.

How/Where did he get that? Was that a relative's or was he awarded it? I know the Hungarians have been very anti (Muslim, gay) in policy of late.

Since 1983 the Vitéz Order has been awarded to individuals who have been defenders of Hungarian national interests and culture.
